Re: Electron 6502 desolder / socket pics

When I was much much younger, I wrote to Slogger to suggest that they take the Electron mainboard out of it's case and give it a bigger one (a bit like the master compact), leaving the Keyboard where it was. Maybe someone could do this as their next project giving you highrise options for your CPU b...

I would aim for 4.02, has a decent amount of backwards compatibilty, network support and functionality over 3.x and supports long file names.

Re: RiscPC lost network access

I'm guessing the EL600 you moved to the working machine still worked? If so that rules the card out completely. Are you getting a link light on your router and/or any activity lights? Are you getting an IP address on DHCP, if so what is it? Do you have IP and MAC address binding turned on on the rou...

Re: RiscPC lost network access

Just had a quick look at my EtherLAN600 issue. Cable is fine in another machine, swapped over the EtherH with a working one, same issue. I've tried static IP and DHCP on both RISC OS 3.71 and RISC OS 5.23 and have updated to the ROM and drivers from NICDrivers.zip EHTest reports: Interface media: 1...

Sounds like you have MAC address binding turned on in your router.
As long as you keep the same IP with that network card, it should be ok.

Re: Open source firmware for Gotek floppy emulator released

You need to solder in a header first: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pcb-headers/2518086/ Yup, this works. Flashed mine using some soldered on jumpers and a creatively bodged serial cable. Worked like a charm :) Unfortunately, never got it to work properly on my Archie's so probably get a config set...

Not just softer colours but completely different pallette sets for alternative looks.

I think it's a great idea. :) Pulling together a solution for the less technical that works pretty much out of the box and isn't stupidly over-priced. :D Edit: Just to be clear, I wasn't implying that others should feel obliged to do this, or anyone else that does do this should feel slighted.

Re: 2nd SATA hard drive??

It sounds like it could be a faulty device.
If you have it in as the only drive and try a fresh Windows install on it, does it recognise the drive?

Edit: The drive could be factory partitioned to GPT, which means XP won't see it in Disk Management

AV is all pretty much of a muchness these days in the home market. Personally I'd stick with Defender as it's as good as most other free (and some paid) home AV solutions. That is to say that the biggest threats these days stem from Zero Day exploit related infections, which many of these won't catc...

Also, while your CD/DVD Drive may have worked, cheap SATA cables can be fickle, so try changing it.
Also try plugging in to a SATA mobo connector that your current HDD sits on to see if it detects. :D
