Re: Exile
The article said "smooth scrolling screens", so I assume it was a verbatim quote from the press release. But the screenshot clearly shows a very early version (a good 5 months before release), with different scenery graphics and a different map. I think Exile was always designed from the ...

Re: Exile
Yeah, that's from here . From James Herriott, February 2002: In The Micro User, they had a screenshot of the game with a dog in it. Anyone know how this was supposed to fit in? I presumed it would be at the end of the game, but it wasn't. Anyone ever trawled through the Micro User scans from 1988 t...

Matt Godbolt pointed me at this interesting blog post on Exile: http://scarybeastsecurity.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/exile-for-bbc-micro-some-elegant.html It's great to see that it's still inspiring people... 26 years on  Strange the names that appear. I thought William Reeve worked on a non-Aco...

Re: "Unfixable bug" in BBC B Elite
Like David, I'd love to know if there were any such routines copied from Elite (as Superior claimed), or even just algorithms lifted and reimplemented (multiplication/division techniques, line clipping/rendering, etc). As I said, the end results look markedly different in each game, so I'd be surpr...

Re: Exile disassembly
The next thing I haven't yet really fathomed is collision. Are objects treated as rectangles, and does it just perform collision of bounding boxes (e.g. when stacking objects)? Clearly collision with background tiles, e.g. angled walls, is less granular. But does it know the wall slope and make a s...

Re: Help required for the new BBC games archive
There were several games released on the BBC Micro subscription disc and tapes in the late days of Acorn User in the early 1990s. Also Bladedancer from omicron Technologies who still have a website Explorer from Dragonssoft Everton Intelligentsia : http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=2376...
