Re: A5000 woes

Forgot - cmos reads into two lines on I/O chip, difficult to find on circuit diagram. They toggle for maybe 1/2 sec on power-up. Although unable to 'read' the data coming from cmos using scope, I confirmed CMOS being read okay on power-up.

Hope this helps.

Re: A5000 woes

Probably not related but maybe worth checking the 'bleeding obvious'? Fixed a couple of 5000s recently. Battery in one was a little fury but hadn't leaked, was working fine although now replaced. (Glad I kept it, now a temporary replacement in Risc PC) Swapped out cmos as post reported cmos & ro...

Brilliant system, easy to use too. Have one each on my Beeb & Master, makes moving files around easy, to/from PC too. What's not to like?

Re: ICS Wizzo IDEFS for A5000/A4 (+A3020/A4000...) improves CF card support!

Small update needed to my code: prom programmer loads BBC Rom images into banks of sw ram, needs updating to load larger images across banks of ram. Rom write routines okay as they automatically switch across banks of ram depending upon size of Rom in programmer. Some assembler updates on beeb neede...

4 Partitions on one drive up and running... IDEDisc6,7,8 - still running solid state disk too. Interesting, the IDE disc formatter allowed me to create 6 partitions, likely could have created more. Unsurprisingly the filing system recognises the first four it finds - I presume.

Re: ICS Wizzo IDEFS for A5000/A4 (+A3020/A4000...) improves CF card support!

Great to hear that! If it works with the floppy boot disc, you can avoid this on the A5000 by finding someone to burn an extension ROM :) Thanks for the update, guessed it likely 4 partitions would work. I can blow up to & including 27512 roms in the BBC prom programmer I made. I'm guessing the...

Re: ICS Wizzo IDEFS for A5000/A4 (+A3020/A4000...) improves CF card support!

Thanks for this post! I now have an IDE/SD card reader working on an A5000 under IDEFS booted from floppy formatted ADFS. The SD card reader would not work under ADFS. Currently using a 512MB microSD, will try something larger with multiple partitions another time. Using the IDE tools suggested, can...

Hi Folks, Enjoying getting an A5000 up and running, learning loads. Latest success, connecting to NAS via Sunfish. Feeling chuffed, can see the Arc stuff I've downloaded using the PC on the NAS and copy across. Trouble is, in so doing I've updated modules as necessary such I've now about 2GB of ram ...

Quick update after much use of scope and dvm, and reading app note on POST testing. Remove roms = dead machine, as expected. I'm guessing it boots from address &0 in rom? I believe the machine is successfully running its power-up self tests as it gets to POST okay. It looks like it's reading bot...

Re: A5000 Boot Error (Error Number &80000003)

Had the scope out, most interesting. The 74138 ram select chip is working perfectly albeit I've not checked all inputs to outputs, I can see it toggling the two on-board banks of ram, not so the off-board banks as set by the links. I can see the C(0) and C(1) lines toggling on the CMOS ram chip on s...

Done. I lifted out the ram card just in case it had gone faulty, it's an 8meg. I reset the links accordingly, was set to 4meg, now set to 2meg. Re: A5000 Boot Error (Error Number &80000003)

I've definitely had an Arc that had bad ROMs but can't remember which model it was (possibly an A3020). However, it's worth reseating the ROMs and checking the sockets for corrosion or damage (unless you've got a spare set of ROMs lying around). Also, check that any ROM size links are set correctly...

359 translates... 3 = 1+2, ie. 1: Rom failed checksum & 2: Cmos failed checksum - set of roms and cmos chip on order. 5 = 1+4, ie. 1: ARM3 fitted for non-RiscPC hardware - sounds good, running A5000 & 4: PC-style IO world detected - no idea, could be resulting from faulty cmos config, faulty...
