Re: Today I received.....

The newish cheaper flukes which were originally destined for the Asian market are pretty good value. I bought a Fluke 17B+ for around £90 IIRC and I've been very pleased with it. Yes but the AN8008 is really nice, small and accurate, and unbeatable for the price. I have a Voltcraft meter that I nev...

Ok, I'm now officially blind and have hand cramps....120,600 Ed...... :-) MIS4.png I wish I could compete, but will likely be away at least 1 more week, I forgot to write before I left: "don't select the games I chose until I return!" ;-) I will try this game, finally for a proper gaming ...

Re: 30th Anniversary BBC and Electron Collection

Hi, The sound improvements to all Electron games was simply altering the last 6 numbers in the Envelopes to the 126,0,0,-126,126,126 configuration as discussed on the forum some time back. For some strange reason, Guardian does sometimes seem slower than I remember. I can only test it on BeebEm and...

Re: Electron to BBC Conversions

I think what's needed it to take the new version and load it into both BeebEm and b-em emulators and also load it onto a real BBC and compare the 3 and see where any jerky (if any) come into play. It may then be that altering that figure (&12) to say &11 or &13 makes for a less jerky ga...

No idea, I used beebem (unix version) and before that Xbeeb ca. 1995-1996, no others and none since 1997!

I just use my BBC B. Though it's been flaky lately, need to remove the ROM board and use contact cleaner :)

Re: White Light High Score Challenge for Beta Testers

Thanks for sorting that Ed, the download is now available to the beta testing team in the hidden forum. In addition to posting scores, if competitors could also post the level they reached for each score posted, that would be fab. As an extra incentive, the winner will be the first to receive a pac...

Re: 30th Anniversary BBC and Electron Collection

Just reposted Games Discs 14,15 and 22 due to the game speed of Electron Invaders, Guardian and Gauntlet being altered to run more closer to their original Electron Speed on the BBC. Also altered the Emulator detection routine for Guardian to match the one used by Sutty for Winter Wonderland. Sorry...

Re: "Unfixable bug" in BBC B Elite

There are many ways to write 3D code and I don't doubt that Julian Bushell did it differently to Bell and Braben (and probably not quite as well). Aha, why "probably not quite as well"? I see no reason to asume that... Stylistically it's certainly a lot like Elite, particularly the scanne...

Re: "Unfixable bug" in BBC B Elite

That's interesting, Wouter. Do you think there is scope for performance improvements? It was my intention to speed it up and make it smaller, not so much for use but more as an exercise to improve the code and to see what is possible. I don't think small code optimisations in that code will be noti...

Re: "Unfixable bug" in BBC B Elite

I was reading lwn.net the other day and came across this in the comments: I can think of two pieces of software that were completed. TeX, because Knuth decreed it (and bugfixes didn't stop even then), and BBC B Elite, which must be considered to eventually have been completed because there was lite...

Re: Season 8 Game Nominations

All 3 are on the BBC Games Archive so we're good there. I don't discourage the 'standards' because there may be people like myself who never got a chance to play those only having a Beeb for about 10 months while in Iceland. For those that have played all those standards but don't want to, by all m...

With reference to what I posted not 2 hours ago in another thread, civility please - if you don't like what someone's said, walk away. There's no need to be personal. d. I'm right about the prices, so if you laugh, it will show just one thing... Yes - that I have a good sense of humour. No, there was nothing funny meant, nor was it unintentionally funny in whatever way you interpret it, so your 'laughing' is laughing at which only tells me something very dif...

Re: Brand new original BBC micro. Museum quality for sale

The last Beeb I bought was an issue 7 (supposedly "sought after") for £30 and it had twin disk drives and a WE RAM/ROM fitted. Came with a hundred or so disks and some ROMs (notably, Interword), with all manuals. Although to be fair, that would have been a short while ago. I just had a qu...

Re: Season 8 Game Nominations

I think it would be nice not to have any of the classics, but rather unknowns or relatively recent ones, that could be interesting but have not had much attention. So I suggest: - Opus: A maze in space - Atari: Asteroids deluxe (possibly on easy+shields ?) Not sure about 3rd choice, but perhaps: - E...

It is not so difficult to get through the maze, but it is definitely difficult to get through the final part of it without losing a life at the end of the maze. You then continue on the next section if you die, so you can do the whole thing again but this means being limited to doing the loop 4 tim...

I would have thought you should list on eBay as an auction with a 99p start price. When the auction ends, you will know what it's worth. Keep your description factual and include lots of good quality pictures. Don't use words like WOW ULTRA RARE etc, because it isn't (rare). Probably avoid MINT too...

I will up that offer by a pack of cookies!

I've figured out there is a glitch with the key mappings. Sometimes for no reason the keys seem to work together to get an entirely wrong direction for the plane, at other times it seems like the keyboard buffer is holding old keystrokes which plays havoc on the next go that you just failed at. Alt...

Ah it was nearly 21 years ago that I last played Rocket raid. I scored 70k then and the problem was the fuel cannisters at the end of the maze, usually lost a life there, hence 70k, which all came back to me when I seriously played several games this night to try to get perfect in the maze. First 2 ...

There are actually a number of ways to points-whore in this game as there were in the original Galaforce , albeit the "multiplier" sequences start occurring far later on in this sequel (from galaxy 8, with the Deck Of Cards from Galaforce making a reappearance in galaxy 13, I think it is)...
