Sorry, I meant to reply earlier!

It looks good for a first issue. :) Very promising indeed.

Re: Mega Games Cartridge for the Electron MGC

If you haven't updated the menu program recently then it should be fairly easy to do this, especially if you are supplying the EEPROM reading/writing tools in a separate ROM bank. I'll update the GitHub repository to make it easier to see how to build a new menu ROM with my tooling. I'll also try to...

Yes, you're right! #-o

I've attached tape and disk images containing the programs for convenience. :)

Re: Any short type-ins for unattended Beebs?

I made a quick video of something like lurkio's program. The code is similar to the code below: MODE 5 VDU 23,224,128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1 VDU 23,225,1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128 REPEAT VDU 223+RND(2) UNTIL FALSE maze1_half.png I was using the user-defined character memory directly to more succinctly allow chan...

I don't know why that is. Perhaps it's because I've never produced the boards. Feel free to drop the broken links.

Thanks for adding the other links. :)

Re: MAME: Video handling

Just to finish up my side of this digression, I should say that I was loading using Elkulator's "Really Fast" loading option. Switching it off after loading the second file, I still get a couple of minutes or so of black screen until it finally shows the high speed run - no menu first. Any...

Re: MAME: Video handling

Interesting. Elkulator displays a black screen for a long time then shows the high speed run (demo). It may show a menu beforehand, but not 11 seconds after loading supposedly finishes, and I don't sit and watch the emulator so, when it finally shows something and I notice, that's what I see. I have...

Re: MAME: Video handling

I've attached an archive containing two ROMs to this message. If it crashes with data on the screen while loading then you need to swap the ROMs around so that the other ROM starts first. Hope that makes sense. :)

Re: MAME: Video handling

I should write a test case for the tape interface palette/timer trick, just to make it easier (and quicker) to see if an emulator is handling it properly. Southern Belle takes ages to start even when it works. :) I suspect that it doesn't work at all when run from DFS, as Elkulator manages the tape ...

It does take a few minutes to start, but I also found that it never seems to get to that point when loaded from DFS.

Re: MAME: Video handling

Thanks for mentioning that. It explains why running a ROM conversion of the game shows less of the playing area than it should do. I'd have to "unplug" the ROM it loaded from before jumping into the game code and I'm not too sure how I'd do that reliably. :)

Re: MAME: Video handling

Don't let those test cases discourage you. They're quite challenging and Elkulator doesn't get them quite right, either. :)

Southern Belle is on the Five Star Games 3 disc, so perhaps you might like to try that. It didn't work for me using Elkulator but maybe I did something wrong.

It looks very good now! :D Well done! Have you tried Southern Belle? I previously thought it didn't work in Elkulator until I just tried it to check. Re: Acorn files on other platforms

For what it's worth, I'm currently pursuing the idea of emulated 6502 code in a restricted environment as a way to implement filing systems. If you haven't already seen it, you might want to take a look at py65 . In the process, I'm trying to formulate a clean C++ emulator implementation based loos...

Re: Acorn files on other platforms

I'm not sure about the eventual structure of the repository, so I've created the repository in my user area: Acorn-Format-Tools. This means that we can discuss what should be in there and I can rearrange/redo things before we create a repo under the stardot organisation.

Re: Acorn files on other platforms

At some point I'll get back to updating my ADFSlib Python module with the information from the ADFS Format thread. For DFS, I have a couple of modules that I use for writing disk images, but I tend to copy them between projects rather than develop them independently. Samples can be found in this pro...
