Re: MODE 7 on RISC OS BBC Emulator 6502em

This doesn't look like an MDF issue to me. It looks instead like the underlying version of Risc OS doesn't provide mode 7.

Try doing *basic then MODE7 from Risc OS. Can you get Teletext colours to work?

Re: P.R.E.S. AP5 - Original and Re-Design

I have tested the Beeb compatible user port with my AMX mouse and the hacked version of AMX Art that the genius that is Mr Barr did for me a few years back and that works fine too. I've now got to this point as well, and have copied the contents of the Elk AMX Art disc onto the BeebSCSI HD along wi...

Re: disk images: graphical images of data layout on disk

Interesting and pretty! I like it.

Perhaps it's an illusion, but there doesn't look to be anything like enough colour variations to represent the number of bits that would be on a disk. That said, how much capacity is there on a c64 disk?

Re: BeebEm ADFS disc access bug?

Yes that's right - I have not had any problems accessing hard disk images, only this one specific floppy disk image. As Jon and Coeus have demonstrated, it's actually a corrupt image. BeemEm responds to this corruption a bit differently to the other emulators, which may be a bug. You brought up the ...

Re: BeebEm ADFS disc access bug?

I've tried changing byte offset FD from 0A to 05, and whilst this does indeed allow MENU to be loaded, it creates another problem which is that *RUN !BOOT gives the message "Bad FS map". *DUMP !BOOT has the same effect, in fact just *ADFS does it as well. So I think that this image perhaps...

Re: BeebEm ADFS disc access bug?

The problem seems to be with the disc image. The image is reporting as a double sided disc although the image is actually single sided. Changing byte 0xfd of the image from 0x0a to 0x05 converts it back to a single sided image and BeebEm then works fine with it. Well done Jon! Although this must su...

Re: BeebEm ADFS disc access bug?

It's reassuring to hear it isn't just me! Just to be clear though, - this bug appears to be totally repeatable (if using this specific floppy image) - and it doesn't actually relate to the hard disc at all. You don't need to switch hd support on to get the bug to appear. I'd switch to using B-Em for...

BeebEm ADFS disc access bug?

I've been experimenting with using BeebEm to access hard disc images, as a way of transferring files onto my BeebSCSI system. In general it works, and I'm enjoying using ADFS 'properly' for the first time on an 8 bit machine. I'm still not a big fan of it, but we're making progress...! However I hav...

Re: Recurrent corrupted discs - possible floppy drive fault?

Are you using ADFS explorer in interleaved mode? I've no idea Daniel! However, I have discovered that my version is 1.6.3, from 2006... I don't think it differentiates between interleaved and non-interleaved. As I thought, it pre-dates the need to register. I'm definitely going to register f...

Re: Recurrent corrupted discs - possible floppy drive fault?

I've made a quite a bit of progress on this today: Why *Verify doesn't work I didn't mention this in my original post, but a further issue hampering my investigations is that *VERIFY refused to work. However I have now figured out why. On this machine, I have several roms which provide *VERIFY - the...

Re: Recurrent corrupted discs - possible floppy drive fault?

I've found with Omniflop and my drive setup (5.25" HD drive on the PC) that if I format and write with Omniflop then the disk is corrupt. If I format on the Beeb then write only (no format) with Omniflop then it works perfectly every time. Are you formatting with Beeb or Omniflop/PC? I discove...

Recurrent corrupted discs - possible floppy drive fault?

I think this belongs in the Hardware forum but I'm not sure! Back when I was using this disc for development, I tended to image it using Omniflop on my PC...

Re: P.R.E.S. AP5 - Original and Re-Design

I extracted the top 16k out of the file I burned to the AP5 rom, and compared it to ELK100 using the file compare in HxD. They're identical. Then, just for completeness, I compared the file to Acorn's ADFS 1.00. They're different, the first difference being in the rom header: Acorn ADFS 1.00: 00 00 ...

OK, I'll have a go at testing it with my Pegasus board. Might struggle a bit with the Plus 3 as that is equipped with the mighty ADFS 3.31 and I'm not sure there is a *UNPLUG on there. Just looked at my AP5 rom before erasing it, and yes I see "EPP" in the title of the MMFS rom. I had wond...

Also, do update to the DiamondBack release. It fixes a serious bug in the GPU code, a...

While you're in correcting mode Dave, I noticed several other trivial errors/typos in the manual which you might want to include at the same time. Great, as you say I'll try the Mode 2 solution first because it's a lot easier. Regarding bank switching, I had assumed this would be something done manually by the user making the pokes described in the manual. It can't be done from within a sideways rom, presumably, as to do so would pull out the ...

Re: P.R.E.S. AP5 - Original and Re-Design

That's very helpful, thanks Dave. On reflection I see that you basically have to have one, and only one, FS working with PAGE at E00. This is because the two overlays are different sizes. Ideally this would be ADFS, because DFS @1900 is pretty standard and not too inconvenient, whereas ADFS @1D00 is...

I've got my board built up as well - no problems building it except the right-angled headers on the left and right hand sides were supplied as straight... I fixed this by just bending them over.
