Re: BOS ROM for PMS B2P

I can explain the workings of the E2P, which is the Electron equivalent of the same thing. I also have a commented disassembly somewhere of the E2P code. However, the B2P can't work in exactly the same way as the E2P. This is because the E2P plugs into a cartridge slot on the Plus 1 and is therefore...

Re: New Release: Retro Software's WHITE LIGHT by Sarah Walker

I noticed a puzzling thing last night while playing WL. At first, the power ups behaved normally, giving me a wide angle double shot, then adding a third etc. However after playing a few attempts I found that I only ever got a narrow angle double shot, no matter how many additional power ups I colle...

Re: Elk ACP3 and ACP4 Floppy Interface

If I remember correctly, the AP3 is a reimplementation of the Acorn Plus 3 but in a cartridge, ie it has ADFS.

Whereas, the AP4 has DFS.

There was also and AP34 which could be fitted with both.

I've not managed the self-control necessary to avoid playing the emulated version Which emulator are you using and on what platform? I can get it to run in Windows B-em (under WINE on a Mac) and JSBeeb, but not in Win BeebEm or Mac BeebEm. :?: I am using BeebEm, on Windows. It seems to work OK but ...

I've not managed the self-control necessary to avoid playing the emulated version..! It's absolutely brilliant and a credit to everyone involved in its creation. I'm really impressed by the graphics, the music, and the absolutely flawless scrolling. But what is even more impressive is the way...

Re: Printing a program listing

Inriguingly, the listing for GBLTD contains his address at the time. Looking on Google Maps, it appears to be an unremarkable apartment block. It's nice to think that maybe this chap rose from a relatively poor background to be (most probably) a multimillionaire thanks in part to his skills with BBC...

Re: New Release: Retro Software's WHITE LIGHT by Sarah Walker

I'm very keen to try it... but I've bought a real copy which someone can give to me as a Christmas present, so it seems a bit wrong to shortcut that process by playing the .ssd version.

I guess after waiting for 9 years I can wait a few more days...!

Re: Printing a program listing

Looking at the Companies House records for Dealogic and Computasoft, it does seem likely that its the same guy. It's Simon W Hessel, as I recall from playing the game, and that's the same middle initial I see here. I reckon he probably did write it himself though - as a teenager, in common with many...

I'm not sure I understand the question. The Micro User became Acorn Computing and eventually merged with Acorn User. This went on to become Qercus (I think).

Re: A3000 lost Hard Disk, a noob's story

I’m worried about the battery. What does *status say now? If it has changed, your battery is dead. The battery is soldered to the pub, so if it is leaking it could destroy the machine.

Re: A3000 lost Hard Disk, a noob's story

Jon is right - Harddiscs is the number of ST506 drives in the machine, and so should be zero.

However there is another problem which is that the number of IDEFSdiscs is showing as zero after *status, but you set it to one earlier. does your machine have a new battery in it ?

Re: A3000 lost Hard Disk, a noob's story

Nice one! That is what I was trying to remember.

This should make the hard disc work. However, whether the SD card works or not will depend on whether it was formatted correctly using the HCCS utility.

Здравствуйте kppot, I have got the same system as you (with same HCCS podule) so hopefully I can help you! I don't think you have broken anything. So.. did the machine have a traditional hard disc when you got it? Did that work? If so, we should try to get that working first. *Configure filesystem i...

Re: Keyboard

Good question. :D You are not doing anything wrong, but you just need to understand about Teletext mode. When the machine boots it will by default be in MODE 7, which is the Teletext mode. In this mode the keys don't necessarily produce the characters written on them. However if you choose any other...

Re: WE 32K RAM Card Repair

I've now re-tested the BBC without the ram card but with the rom board only. It works fine. I've also checked out the cable and there are no problems with that either. So the issue must be with either the ram card PCB or the chips on it (excluding the 6502). As lazarusr found, the soldering isn't gr...

Re: WE 32K RAM Card Repair

Here's my solution. I wanted to use three adhesive feet to stack the ram card on top of the rom board. However, you need a gap of at least 25mm between the boards and there don't seem to be any adhesive feet that are as long as that. So what I've done is create some push-fit edge supports using a sp...

I have come up with a plan... I think using double sided sticky pads it will be possible to stick the ram card upside down on top of the rom board.
