Hullo, this thread needs splitting. I'll do it later when on a proper machine unless any of the other mods wants to do it first!

Amstrad CTM640

Hello, The one I was repairing is still sat on my repair bench, I really haven't got the time/inclination to finish it up (or space to keep it). I've replaced all the capacitors, almost all the dead resistors. It still needs a couple of fusible ones iirc. Is anyone interested in it for freebies? I'm...

Hi Steve - welcome :D - that was me that gave you the link. I'm sure Roland will be along shortly to advise as to whether he's got any boards left still! You'll also notice there are a huge number of other tinkery-projects for other Acorn machines. Feel free to get completely stuck in and ask as man...

Re: Wakefield RISC OS show 22/4/17

All back safe and sound. Fun day! Too late in the bar last night. Bad influences abound. Great to see many faces, old and new. I met a person who actually codes in BCPL for a living and the Gods answered my continual criticism of the A3010 by gifting me one which hadn't actually been completely dest...

Can I follow Jason in requesting an RGB-SCART if anyone would be able to bring one along tomorrow? Mine seems to have gone completely AWOL :(

I'm just about to load the car and head over the hills :)

Re: "Outline specification for the BBC MICROCOMPUTER system"

All I know about CP/M is that the complaint seemed to be that it was meant to be a standard OS for different computers but different versions of some applications (eg of WordStar) were often required to cope with different graphics hardware on each make so a bit flawed. Not sure who was complaining...

In so far as additional goodies - I'm going to bring my kryoflux, but I'm not going to bring any repair gear this year. Is there anything in particular software-wise people would like to see?

Re: "Outline specification for the BBC MICROCOMPUTER system"

Would an extra internal '1Mhz' style Bus interface and IDC header for the Disc Interface have avoided needing disc interface specific ICs on main board, saving purchasing cost / giving smaller main board/ allowing design to be deferred/changed to 1770 later? Similarly for the econet section of boar...

Re: Electron unstable/fails to boot when Plus 1 is connected

Before you tin gold plated contacts, can you check continuity from the ICs in the plus 1 through to the elk?

I did end up having to replace the edge connector on my plus 1...

Definitely stick it on Archive.org - that will far outlast any beeb websites. No PDF has been made available (I made a start on scanning it but didn't get very far).

Re: BBC to VGA connector

Just a phono lead to the "composite" socket on a tv (usually yellow), if it has one. Otherwise in SCART-land, pin 20 for composite vid, and 17 for ground.

Is it screwed together? My gut feeling is bad connection on the edge connector... Do try cleaning it with IPA.

With a multimeter set to continuity (or low resistance) - put a probe on pin 15, then the other on a nearby pad that you know is ground, or +5V and see if they're connected?

Have you checked whether pin15 is shorted to ground or +5V? It's a 4 layer board, internal corrosion could have caused some level of stupidity along those lines to have happened...
