Re: Gotek Flashfloppy not recognising blank ADFS discs?

It does - they need to be full sized and padded out. The interleave also needs to be right. I suggest you create an empty 640kb file and format them using ADFS on the gotek? It'll put the right directory structures on them.

Re: Image sizes

Hard is relative - it depends on whether you know how to do it or not :D - if you know how to do something it's easy! (for phpbb you'd have to trawl all the posts in the database, identify the file ojects, move them and generate links. That would require coding, whilst not impossible it's more effor...

Re: Image sizes

The killer is the cumulative effect of lots of "little" things, there's no one big thing that'd make much difference. We'll let people know about the space situation if any financial assistance is needed, but for the time being any new images which are in the large realm will be shrinkified to a max...

If you come up with a generic solution to save autodials in eeprom, we can pull that into the main branch?

Re: Image sizes

That would be a ridiculous kerfuffle and require more manipulation than I think anyone would be willing to do. We like easy and out of the box here, simply as this isn't our day job :D

Re: Image sizes

So, the server adjusts the size automatically for uploaded images using ImageMagick. No need for user-side intervention at all, just continue as normal. I'm just investigating the server situation with regard to increasing the amount of space available. We have about 17gb of attachments, plus the da...

Re: Image sizes

We might limit by file size still, undecided. Just looking at some simple things to implement that will cover the majority of what's uploaded (i.e. pictures of stuff).

Re: Image sizes

The question is whether images need to be any bigger for the purposes of the forum? Mostly it's just people showing things. Detailed instructional images can always be uploaded in a zip.

Image sizes

Hi all, As we've updated, I can implement some new functionality. We're running *very* tight on space at the moment, I can implement server side limits on image sizes and get it to resize them automatically -> does 1024x1024 sound reasonable as a maximum size? For most purposes it should be fine. If...

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

Just that error I pointed to earlier, I edited the file as directed in the errata notes, but it wouldn't work, and kept throwing up even more errors. I was just looking at restoring the backups and going from scratch when I gave it one last shot editing the file on the laptop and uploading it, and b...

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

There was some swearing, and some loss of bowel control, but we're back... :D

First bug:
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2453611

but for some reason editing it in vim on the server didn't work... Editing it on the laptop and re-uploading it seemed to fix it all :)

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

So, I can attempt to update the forum to 3.2 this evening following these instructions:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade31/

I'll back up the database now, and the board files. If it goes wrong I'll just re-instate things as were :|

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

IP address and email are indeed personally identifying information!

I think if the use agreement says that by posting they agree that all posts are made under a cc-by-sa license then that should sort it?

Re: Server Updates

We've been a bit bouncy today - the server's being updated to the latest version of FreeBSD (as the version we were running was no longer going to be supported) - the upshot of this is we won't have to do anything for years to come :) There will be another moment of panic as we attempt to upgrade to...

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

Other thing to bear in mind is who is hosting it, i.e. is that a commerical hosting company? They are probably classed as a Data Processor, so if they are doing anything with the data on stardots behalf they would be required to comply. And if there was no process in place on the stardot website, t...

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

The ICO have said that they're not going to be chasing people down with dogs, and especially not small organisations - I don't think we even count as one of those. I'll try and fathom how this applies to here - it may simply be that we have to make a statement about email addresses and IP addresses ...

Re: Forum GDPR compliance?

It's all a little ambiguous as to how it applies to non-commercial entities. Given that we're not an organisation, rather a loose collection of self organising wotnots who under the previous legislation so far as I can tell would be mostly concerned with domestic rather than commercial issues. Howev...

Re: BeebMaster BBC B Econet Kit

Assuming you're using an 8bit machine as a fileserver, it needs a coprocessor, hard drive (original, ide or BeebSCSI), and can't be used for anything else. You'll also need a clock: https://www.waitingforfriday.com/?p=19 is a good & cheap option! Wealth of links from PaulV's page: https://www.retro-...
