Re: Watford Electronics 13 ROM board

Ooh, hang on, that's not quite the same as mine (I lazily didn't click on the pictures) - mine's 12 ROM board that has two connections, one via the ADC too: http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org ... boardA.jpg

Still ridiculous, still amazingly works.

Re: My First BBC

It's certainly fine for running most things, but does miss a few commands that are in BASIC 2 - OSCLI etc. You might find the odd incompatibility. You can either drop Mark Hayesman a line (Retroclinic) to see if he has any original mask ROMs for BASIC2 (most likely he does), or else burn one if you'...

Re: BBC Master Compact

Hi, welcome to the forum!

The best guide is the eBay sold prices, but it really depends on the day an how much someone wants one. They are rarer than other BBC machines. The ROM images in it won't make any real difference to the value, but having the PSU/disk drive unit will.

I really recommend dropping Mark hayesman a note on Facebook or by email. He's very happy to help diagnose and fix problems with hardware he's created!

Best drive is a 1.2MB PC one, that will deal with pretty much anything you throw at it. Mine's in use I'm afraid :(

Welcome! Type *FX 0 and it'll tell you the OS version. You're rather likely to have 1.2 - most people upgraded to it. It's possible you have basic version 1 though. If you type REPORT it'll report a year - 1981 is BASIC 1, I think 82 is BASIC 2.

Age is the real enemy in the end, but flat batteries are more likely to leak, everything else being equal. A 30ish year old nicad is basically a time bomb whatever though :?

Apologies for mis-pluralisation. ;) They can leak whilst still holding charge. Certainly in my MDFS it had done a fair amount of damage :( And in beebmaster's :(

Re: BBC SD Card on Ebay

Yes duikkie said he was happy for people to do whatever with SMARTSPI - although I'd hope that he was asked. In so far as the bridge board between the SD and user port, that's public domain. The price isn't outrageous so I doubt anyone's going to be making enough to live on from selling them :D

Re: Some question about my A3010. Adelaide & IDEtoCF

It will indeed be the card. IDE-CF converter is a straight through connection more or less. The CF card itself is what implements the IDE interface, so that's the bit that's incompatible. If you have some cards lying about you should try them, but starting to buy lots of cards to test can get expens...

Re: Some question about my A3010. Adelaide & IDEtoCF

Try formatting it smaller to start with - choose 3 from the menu?

Many CF cards just don't get on with the IDE interface :( I've had success with a no-brand 1GB, but nothing else unfortunately :(
