Re: testgamers for elixir !!

Duikkie, I think I found the problem, the problem is writing &2B to &036A at address &6538. If I change this value back to &05, as in the original game, the font is ok. Looking at the code, I think it's a typing failure, STA &036A should be STX &036A. Your notes were ok .........

When you open your Atom, it's printed on the mainboard.

Without opening, an Issue 4 keyboard has smaller letters on the keycaps than those on an Issue5.

Re: Dead Keyboard

Do you have an Issue 4 keyboard or an Issue 5? A key in an Issue 4 keyboard works with springs and it could be that one spring leg is to long and makes contact with the other spring leg. If you press the BREAK key, the contact is broken and the function is reversed .... but it's a guess. It is hard ...

Re: Dead Keyboard

If you get ACORN ATOM and a prompt, the processor, RAM and ROM are working. Not sure if all RAM is working ok, but zeropage and video RAM are. Reset should be high on the CPU and goes low while pressing BREAK. Only on the 8255, reset is low and goes high when pressing BREAK. The only chip in the res...

Re: Dead Keyboard

First check if the power supply is between 4,95 and 5,25V.
Then you can try replacing the 8255 and/or 7445.

Acorn Atom emulator in progress

Hi guys,

I just found a Github repository with an Acorn Atom emulator written by Steve Palmer.
Is Steve Palmer also a Stardot member?

Re: Atom boots after 26 years!

Pin 9 is definitly composite video out but the GND is connected to the wrong pin. Pin1 is connected to PC3 of the 8255 which is the colourselect signal (CSS). After a BREAK, PC3 is 0V so if you measure pin1 you will probably measure 0V until you change the colourset (?#B002=8). The GND should be con...

Re: Atom boots after 26 years!

Hi Mark, good to hear that your Atom is still working. There's a wire protruding from the back of the computer. Seems to be poking out through the video exit. No idea what this is for and there's no connector. Does anyone know what this might be? If the cable is connected to pins 9 and 10 of PL4, th...

Re: Is this project worth it?

I think you should have a look at Jonathan Cauldwells latest AGD. It is written in C, uses textfiles to define the game and uses an engine which can be changed.
Really interesting....

You can still save some heat by replacing the video 2114's with an 8 kB RAM.

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

The Atom Technical Manual says: 'Four short and two long self-tapping screws.'

In my Atom the short ones are diam.3,5 mm with length 10mm en the long ones diam.4 mm with length 40 mm.
They both have rounded cross heads and the short ones are mounted with isolating washers.

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

First I would also go for a good cleaning of the solder side of the board and making sure the washers in the keyboard area are plastic and not causing any shortcuts. Then taking out the chips, cleaning the legs and reaseating them should be the next step.

Re: Martin's Acorn Atom (poorly)

As you can hopefully see they're all high. This means that no key is being stuck. If I press break a few times nothing moves. Looks ok, the BREAK key is outside the key matrix. If I press a key one of the lines does. Means that the 7445 is working which is controlled by the 8255 so the 8255 gets se...
