Re: How's by BBC doing?

Well, I can't see anything in the photos...

If you think it is damp, leave it in a nice dry warm area for a couple of days.

Carefully inspect the board, including the chips and all other components for any mould. If it looks okay, try powering it up :D

Not pixes then? I always thought litle pixies were rubbing the copper from my landline, then other pixies were shining torches down a glass tube. You mean if I open that green box at the end of my room there will be not one pixie in it? Are you sure? Really sure? Yeah, "pixies" usually ma...

Re: Serial port modem?

Every modem I've ever used has plugged into the serial port. Quite majorly misnamed, I think. A modem is a device that modulates and demodulates digital signals to/from analogue sine waves so that the signals can travel via normal telephone exchange and transmission systems. Required because teleph...

The probes (or IC test clips) are there to pick up additional signals for that combined sideways RAM and ROM board you have fitted to your machine.

- Instead of 4096k RAM the BIOS displays 3840k, which is 256k short. The board won't accept more than 4mb RAM, which is probably a design limitation given small size of the board. That’s more than likely the "memory hole" for the BIOS ROM and the I/O card boot ROM space. Or for Video RAM....

Re: Retr0brite problems

Hmm, not keen on that idea. You only need a hole or tear in the cling film and the peroxide could then drip into the switches and then onto the PCB  And of course, if (as they should be) the caps are a tight fit on the switch stems, pushing the two together may well break the cling film. So...

I started with hardware by reading the Maplin Magazine, Everyday Electronics and Practical Electronics many, many years ago. I also did a course at college which included digital electronics, both digital logic and programming on a AIM-65: http://www.decadecounter.com/vta/pic/aim65_1.jpg This is a 6...

Often his aspirations exceeded what people including his employees at first thought possible. This was I believe, a continuation of...

Re: What would be a suitable D2A resister ladder for the beeb

The value of the resistors used needs to be high enough such that the digital outputs are not loaded too much. The output voltage of digital outputs at higher output currents will be less than you expect (for the logic 1) or higher than you expect (for the logic 0). At the same time, you don't want ...

Anyone know if there were other issues of Master MB? I assumed only one. I have at least two Masters with issue 2 boards. Odd definitely looks like 6522s are ic5 & 8 on this MB, checked the schematics on mdfs.net and says one of them should be ic6 (6 & 8 in fact). But that doesn't look like...

Yeah, the problem is, a lot of people have character flaws just as bad as Sinclair. Sinclair did indeed have some dubious business practices. But as with any area of life, people need to read more than just one text on a subject. Because you should never rely on a single source. As to products that ...

I don't know about your Master, but in mine, the noise is from the loudspeaker and has nothing to do with the PSU.

Most Beebs produce noises from their loudspeakers.

@Charlie one side of the board you have just pull ups and the other side you leave unpopulated except where you want to connect a pin to 5v or 0v. Of course you could just replace one of the pullups with 0r but that makes it a pain to swap between say 6502 and z80 etc. 0r :?: Or do you mean 0V ? Ma...

I have not read any of that book. But, it sounds like the author of the book is biased. There are ALWAYS compromises in all forms of engineering.
