Re: Today I received.....

Just my opinion, but I don't think you should build it  Complete ZX81s are so common, and such an easy build with low component count, it would instantly lose most of its curiosity / collectibility / monetary value once built. As you say, it's hard to find the kit for the reasonable price - b...

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

Thanks Kees! That looks much more like what I imagined they should look like :D I will dig around for something suitable :) I reflowed much of the solder points this morning (as much for aesthetics than anything else), and now it behaves slightly differently. It still doesn't boot, however , it now ...

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

Thanks for all the tips, I will try some of these this weekend.

(No beeps though - no speaker!)

Does anyone know which screws are meant to be with this case? The ones I have surely can't be right, they look more like wood screws?

8 1/2 years ago Samwise stated "all gone now", so I'd estimate the chances of them still having the Arena 3000 game are fairly slim

Perhaps place a wanted ad instead?

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give it a clean with some isopropyl alcohol and inspect it all again. The PSU is an older AT PC type, which I'm using rather than ATX because it has the integrated power button. It measures a constant 5.17v with no load, the VCC pins of some ICs measured were appro...

I think the museum already took it in - sadly they poked out the ZIF cover so now it's less than museum quality

OK so I found a few minutes to take some pics, no idea why I assumed this would be an intensive job - it's one of the easiest computers I've ever dismantled! :D , hope these are hi-res enough, my camera has an annoying tendency to try and defocus background objects!

Ha ha, I should have anticipated that joke :D

I've attached some pics...

Image quality is bad anyway because it's through RF on an LCD TV, hence the smearing (but I have nothing else to compare to)

My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

As per subject - I've just been given an Atom (so chuffed about that!) but all it wants to do is write the letter P across the entire screen. And I don't like p's at all! :x If I press BREAK, I am treated to a screen filled with X's I have a scope, voltmeter, etc - but am not a very technically-mind...

BBC B : Mode 7 fine, all other modes corrupt

BBC B went from being fine to looking like garbage!

I understand that Mode 7 is run off a different IC than the rest, which explains why it's fine. All other modes have vertical stripes and flickering pixels / corruption. Anything I can try?

Wow - quite a character obviously! Indeed! How many people do you know that would spend £1,128.00 on a laser printer and leave it, still sealed and unused, on the worktop next to the computer for 14 years? Oh I don't know - I imagine it's the kind of thing I'd do if I had the means. Thankfully for ...

Has anyone successfully converted and used SSD files into HFE files for the HXC Floppy Emulator?
