Re: Vantage - any way to get this working?

I seem to recall the copy protection on Vantage being somewhat onerous... though it was some time ago, so perhaps I'm misremembering. Before I go digging the RISC PC out, does anyone know if it'd be possible to get Vantage up and running? A quick Google finds this article which states the copy prot...

Heimdall Manual protection

This game apparently has Manual based protection according to page 12 of the manual, although I don't remember if I've ever been prompted for a word whilst playing. Does anyone know how to trigger the protection, or better still have a save just before the prompt? This past week, I've been going thr...

Re: Hacker needed ... for Zarch ;-)

Any updates Jon? I've not touched it for the past six months, I have to be in the mood to tinker with Zarch as its mind numbingly tedious. If memory serves me correctly, in the last "let's play" video I was attempting to get the game to run at the monitor refresh rate, by internally runni...

Re: ADFS Format

Interesting to read about the 'G' format, I don't recall having seen that before, was it ever supported by RISC OS do you know? Or was it just theoretical? I've never seen it before and only became aware of it when a friend sent me a portion of the FileCore source code and pointed out the G format ...

Is there not a way to speed up time when traveling? Not that I can see, the manual doesn't mention it. It looks like you can purchase drive upgrades to speed it up, but I've yet to figure out how to make money. The lack of save is the annoying bit as I've yet to get to the first clue location alive...

Re: ADFFS 2.64 public beta

The fixed version that works on RISC OS 4.39 (and other ROL versions) is now available for download . I've rolled the change back as it was producing corrupt archives, ROL users will have to unplug ZLib. Please download 2.64g if you've previously downloaded 2.64f. The compatibility issue appears to...

Does anyone know how you can get the lift to go down in the pyramid lift room, the obvious thing would be carry the lead weight and anvil when you stand on it, but that doesn’t work. Also tried dropping them on the lift, but the game doesn’t let you, so I’m a bit stumped.

Am I missing something or does travelling anywhere take ages? The first mission location for example took 40 mins to get too. Next issue is the option to save game is greyed out, which is really annoying when you’ve traveled said 40 mins and are being shot at when you get there, by half a dozen ship...

Re: ADFFS 2.64 public beta

if you could edit the JFD imager to report the original error message as Jon describes then I think that would be useful. It returns -2 - "The stream structure was inconsistent" It's returned at the very first call to compress data, so doesn't actually compress anything with that version ...

Re: ADFFS 2.64 public beta

why RO Adjust has a ZLib 0.35 and your module, which has a newer date, is version 0.02? That's the version number Jeffrey Lee assigned to his build of ZLib. I have downloaded the last version, now it says "compression error". SparkFS v. 1.44 R/W is loaded and always worked fine. I tried to compress to HDD (IDEFS) and RAMdisc. Is there some method to "drill down" this error? It means ZLib returned an unexpected return value. If you l...

Re: ADFFS 2.64 public beta

There’s a new build available for download, with additional error checking and a few bug fixes for JFD imaging. It also now runs on low vector RISC OS 5 builds, although it’s hit or miss if known working games will work on low vector.

Re: ADFFS 2.64 public beta

What I'm doing wrong? Nothing, it's probably a bug. Try renaming !ADFFS.obey to see if it's having problems reading/compressing the boot script. I assume you see the data being compressed, which is quite slow, but it's hanging on the final step which is to append the boot script. There's no error c...

Re: A3020 EtherLan 210

Maplin and Amazon have DB15 to RJ45 adapters if you want to make your own based on a suitable circuit diagram.

Alternatively, purchase a used transceiver from eBay for under £10 - which is probably cheaper than making it, once you factor in the cost of purchasing all the necessary parts.

Re: Acorn Ethernet 3 podule EPROM and RISCiX

Have you tried unplugging the MBufManager Module, so it's not initialised at power on?

Some of the network modules require an updated CLib, although from memory I don't think MBufManager is one of them...might be wrong though.

Re: Disc Error 20/21/23 and SATA->IDE support

I investigated this a few years ago and found the above fix which was to strap -IOCS16 to an adjacent pin on the adapter which was at 0v (i.e. pin 32 to pin 30). It should really be pulled down via a 1k8 resistor as its TTL 5v. I have previously tested both pull-down and grounding and found it's no...

Re: RISC OS 3.20 ROM's?

Regarding !Boot, any particular reason for using Acorn's? It contains only Acorn “stuff”, UniBoot2 has bits from ROL. I’m trying to keep this as close to an Acorn build as possible. From what I have seen of ROOLs HardDisc4, there is support for 3.1. It also benefits from being under active developm...

Re: RISC OS 3.20 ROM's?

The ROM apps run directly from ROM - copying them to RAM would just be a waste of RAM. Some of the apps were put into Modules in RO3, so do run direct from ROM via a * command, but the Absolute's are compressed and run from RAM. Without the source, running Apps from ROM is no longer an option but I...

Re: RISC OS 3.20 ROM's?

For testing you could probably go with an earlier CallASWI, since the self-modification only appeared in version 0.12. I'm fairly certain CLib only requires it for OS_CallASWI / OS_CallASWIR12, so even the oldest version should do. I've now looked at 0.11, its not suitable for ROM as it's also stor...
