Re: High Score Challenge S8 - R6 - Felix Meets the Evil Weevils

I had issues with the panic button in Beebem or B-Em last time we played as well (can't remember which), I resorted to using the old "Model B" emulator instead, which lets you define your own custom key mapping configs.

Love this one, one of my BBC top 10 for sure.

Re: High score challenge rules discussion.

A good counter-example of where allowing milking the game for points makes sense and should definitely be allowed (and, when we played it, it was considered OK) is the excellent Android Attack. You can play it by completing the levels as fast as possible, but you won't get the highest scores that wa...

Marginal improvement, I'm finding the game a little frustrating.

Re: Unable to Load on BBC B

I have just acquired a tape drive (it's new - one of those cheap Bush models from Argos). [...] I'm currently looking for a WAV file to try from my phone - see if that will rule out the tape recorder. This might be your problem... new tape recorders are pretty crappy nowadays. Might be worth lookin...

The one you gave me is labelled:

KOREA-A

The behaviour on both ULAs seemed to be the same.

Yeah, using the RGB output.

Not the end of the world if I can't get it working - it's only my spare machine after all.

Re: Display issue on my spare beeb

How is the invert link (S26) setup? Just based on the mode 6 output, it might be worth swapping S26 over to see if that improves things. Having it set to invert would also cause mode 7 to be dim. If you can, it might be worth posting some pictures of your Beeb PCB (both sides) just so that we can s...

Re: Display issue on my spare beeb

I don't have a disc drive here unfortunately - I tried loading a game off tape with no success, but that can be finnicky at the best of times even if you can see what's going on, so that doesn't prove anything. I can type simple BASIC sound commands in and they work.

Display issue on my spare beeb

The display went on my BBC micro a few years ago - I was playing Chuckie Egg on a really hot day and the display just disappeared. RobC kindly gave me a replacement ULA chip to try yesterday (thanks!), but I've just tried it today and unfortunately it's the same. I tried hooking it up to my bigger C...

Re: High score challenge rules discussion.

Usually, deliberately killing yourself in order to be able to re-do a high scoring section is frowned upon and against the rules. There might have been a case to make an exception for Manic Miner, though. Adding kong to the game and giving you 2000 points for toppling him (at the exchange of a life)...

Re: High Score Challenge S8 - R1 - A Maze In Space

One game I randomly managed to find and destroy the base twice. The other game I didn't, and was wandering around for ages, just shooting stuff. Guess which game scored more?

Not a bad game, the maze mechanic is a clever idea, but it doesn't quite work for me.

Nice game, love the backgrounds!

I managed to complete the game on the original version - the timings are tight, but not excessively so.
