Re: CMS system roms.

Going back to your READER2, could you do some additional tests with it? You've set your socket S% to 4 (same as 0?), this is stored at slot register &FC70. Could you run for S%=0, 1, 2, 3 to see where GDP is found. I suspect S%=0 will be the same as S%=4. You also set X%=B%+&80, the MOS performs AN...

The allophones for "O'CLOCK" in this ROM are OW KK1 LL AA KK2, in mine they are OW PA2 KK1 LL DD1.
According to the manual at https://acorn.huininga.nl/pub/unsorted/ ... nual-HTML/ the allophones for O'CLOCK are OW PA3 KK1 LL DD1.

I'm interested in seeing more of this too. It's in MAME but doesn't yet support floppies or software.

... and L7, the IRQ line from 6522?

I'm surprised it boots in 40 column mode, the manual states it should boot in 80 mode.

It's looking better in MODE1, so definitely 80 column mode I need to concentrate on. Clearly the mapping is still in need of attention too.

Re: CMS system roms.

On the 40/80 card there are a number of links to configure the serial interface. Can you let me know how they are set, and also whether the 6522 IRQ line is linked? serial_links.JPG Edit: The keyboard seems to work without any of these links made. Can you also confirm whether the machine starts in 4...

Re: CMS system roms.

Here's what the machine seems to be doing at startup: - Looks for BASIC in the ROMs by iterating through slot register at &FC70, but only ever checks slots 0-3. The slots checked are hardcoded into MOS at &EC71,x (x=0-3). - It writes to &8000 a range of values from &00-&0B depending on slot selected...

On the FDC board 8Mhz crystal on what looks like a standard LS04 osilator, I don't have any docs for the FDC board however judging by the chips on there looks like a pretty standard 1770 circuit, let me know if there's anything you want me to tap out. Re: CMS system roms.

For the address decoding I'll need the PROM at IC8 (74S472), are you able to dump it? So does this machine run standalone, or does it require the Tube connection to a Beeb? I guess standalone, but the 6502 card can be used as a 2nd processor. Can we get some better photos of the cards at some point,...

What does the econet emulation do, can you connect emulators through internet? Not very useful, just connects to an emulated Fileserver like the BBC machines do. Never used or understood econet so it's never worked afaik, may be a MC6854 emulation issue or just needs a clock. Excellent, I'll have t...

MAME: Acorn System

As there are no other System emulators out there I thought it was time MAME supported them. The System 3 with 6809 CPU has been in MAME for many years so I've added the 6502 and 6502A CPU boards for the System 3, 4, and 5. The System 2 is not working as the COS ROM is MIA. Support for the following ...

Re: MAME: Click (and other large ROMs)

The problem is, the Z80 Client ROM contains some 6502 code that is uploaded to the host, and this hard codes the address of the tube data register at &FEE5. So you need to patch the client ROM (in 2 places) to use the Elk address of &FCE5. Thanks for the explanation, I'd wrongly assumed it was caus...

I'd like to support the PMS E2P-6502, looks like we have the ROM and floppy versions of the system software.

What's the difference between the PMS E2P and the DIY version in ETI?

After finding the ROM for the Beeb Speech Synthesizer from Watford it was very easy to implement, considering no schematic or even a photo of the board. It has a SP0256-AL2 connected to PB0-PB6 to speak allophones. PB7/PB8 specify high/low intonation. The CB1/CB2 lines are connected to LRQ/SBY. It s...

Does anyone have a Watford Beeb Speech Synthesiser?

It's a speech synthesiser that connects to the userport and requires a ROM. I'm specifically looking for the ROM to potentially emulate it. Seems quite rare!

To get even more serious, I would suggest, when they get a little bigger, not to buy a leapfrog tablet or other proprietary kids tablet? They are quite cheap but the software is terribly expensive for what it is, and they try and lock you in to their ecosystem. Far better to get a tablet (apple or ...

I implemented the SmallyMouse2 method and it fixed my issues with the RB2 Tracker Ball software (Icon Art Master and MEDL Trackerball Utilities), both now work as expected. Since the AMX mouse is supposed to work with GEM on the M512, and it currently doesn't, I'm going to look more at how SmallyMouse2 is implemented. Other than experimentation you could disassemble the code the processes the interrupt and count cycles - that would gives you fastest response. Or, you could try to work out what the fastest rate could be from the mouse hardware but I wonder if that depends on how fast the use moves it across the d...

I don't know about the others, but 128 probably comes from scan line timing. I'm referring to the emulation that polls the mouse inputs to generate interrupts whilst the mouse is moving, not the polling of PB from the machine. For the Compact should the M512 mouse implementation work, with extra bu...
