Re: Switchable/dynamic/expanded RISC OS

Has anyone, ever, put a 4Mbyte ROM set in an Archimedes, or heard of anyone ever doing it? Yes, I've done it (which is why I was suggesting this on the other thread :)) LA21 is present at the sockets on the A540 and latter (mostly selected via a link), so that's the A540, A5000, A4, A3010, A3020, A...

Re: Switchable/dynamic/expanded RISC OS

Thinking more about this especially considering the above discussion, and the fact that going larger than current RISC OS 3 ROMs, while OK for most Archimedes computers, won't be universally easy as some early computers will need modifications - I'm definitely leaning towards two project approach. Ooh very nice :)

Do the build tools include calculating the ROM checksums and a tool to generate 'striped' 8 bit or 16 bit ROM image files for burning? (The later is simple to write if not...)

New Aneng AN8000 Digital multimeter £10 posted UK

As per the title. I accidentally ordered two of these rather neat, entry-level digital multimeters, due to a slight ebay ordering mix up. So here's my spare one for sale. 20171203_151349.jpg Supplied as in picture, all brand new, just needs 2 x AAA batteries. £10 incl. UK postage, if paid by paypal ...

Re: RISC OS 3.20 ROM's?

Good point. I ordered some 27C160's from futurlec.com last year and they're still listing them as available now. reichelt.com also lists them as available, but 31-41 day delivery suggests shipping from China. But yes, the more mainstream suppliers don't seem to list these, so would need to confirm a...

Re: RISC OS 3.20 ROM's?

Really interesting topic! Great work so far Jon, Jeffrey and all. Considering the squeeze on space trying to fit within the original 2mb RISC OS 3 ROM size, I think this could be a opportunity to use a larger EPROM and create a 4mb RISC OS 3.2. I looked into this very briefly a while back, but never...

I would have thought it's specific to the adaptor as that's what implements the interface, however I have a few SD cards I can try over the next few days... I've certainly seen this behaviour from some of the SD adaptors I have, as I've also seen Disc Error 23, but I can't be sure I ever carried ou...

Hi! I'm the one who bought this strange A540 with the eproms that have Markes by hand. The problem is, the machine had seriously battery leaking problems and is not booting up. If you don't hear the usual spin up and heads engaging noise at startup then this is likely to be a failing drive, but first double check everything, especially that the cable is correctly inserted and not shifted along by one row of pins. I've had a few drives from 90s computers fail. It is possibl...

Re: Adapter and device that reliably produce Disc Error 23

Hi Jon, I have SD-> IDE adaptors which consistently produce disc error 23 when connected to an A5000. I don't know if they do the same on a RiscPC though (if this is what you're working on?). The adaptors all have a single IC with ST368 and/or Sintechi written on them, and are currently what you rec...

Well done for getting so far! It's easy to give up on these and I know from experience they can be really frustrating at times. d.

The connector that plugs into the motherboard is on the other side.

Also the A540 backplane, at least mine, is incredibly flimsy, flexing at the slightest pressure... Whereas my A5000 backplane is much more sturdy. :)

Interesting! So whoever paid out for that A540 may have an early example with possibly a pre-release version of RISC OS 2.01... Well, I'm stumped. I cleaned up the PCB and looked for damage. I couldn't find anything, all the tracks looked undamaged, so today soldered the new battery in. I can't do the A3010 HDD mod as it's an Adelaide not an ARM250! That doesn't stop you doing the HDD modification, in fact it should be slightly easier, as the Adelaide board pins are easier to solder onto... The important ide controller IC24 (82c711) is still present, so you 'just' need to tap into...
