Re: Today I received.....

Thanks to Retroclinic, yesterday I received this rather unusual beast:

So hopefully I can finally fix this.

This was the last IDE board I've got, hope everyone out there with one of them managed to get it working :?: Great to see you've got it into your expanded Adelaide A3010, what a machine that must be! Interesting to see also because you have a very low lying Adelaide board, mine is on much higher le...

Re: SD cards which don't work with MMFS/SmartSPI/etc.

Have you checked that the 128mb cards are real and not those fake capacity ones that lurk on places like Ebay and Alibaba? Great thought, and useful tools thanks, but i don't think anyone is trying to fake a 128mb ( not gb) card. If anything this would be a larger capacity card cut down to 128mb as...

Thanks Dave - just tried this, and upon issuing *CARD, I get about 40 rows of "FF400000000095:FF" before it returns the "Card?" error...

Guess that means no SPI?

Yep, that's what I used...

Not sure how to get more information off the card though, is there a tool to extract information?

Thanks duikkie, very useful summary.
duikkie wrote:which cards , brand and other marks ?

I only have what is in the photo, no brand or other marks.

So this would be SD only then, no SPI, that's a shame. :(

Hopefully not the start of a new trend in SD only cards...

SD cards which don't work with MMFS/SmartSPI/etc.

Is it normal to find that some SD cards don't work with any of the MMFS/SmartSPI/etc. ROMs using a 99p user port interface on the beeb? I recently got a couple of brand new, but very low capacity, SD cards (128mb) bundled with parts for another project. I was going to stick them in the back of my sp...

Re: SN76489 best sample playback?

My issue 3 beeb has a SN76489AN, however my issue 2 beeb has a SN76489N. I'm very surprised and confused by this info as everything I've read suggests that the SN76489 max clock is 500Khz, (whereas SN76489A is 4Mhz max) so unless the issue 2 MB has a /8 compensation for the 4Mhz sysem clock, it see...

Re: SN76489 best sample playback?

Great discussion, I hadn't appreciated the different possibilities to output sampled sound from the beeb! The SN76489AN used in most (all?) BBCs does indeed reset the bit sequence when writing to the noise control register. I know the NCR 8496 does not (this is required by the LucasArts Tandy music ...

Re: Archimedes A3010 issues

Have you checked to see if there's a ram expansion in the machine? If there is and it's bust then it might be causing your error. Another possible cause is if there used to be a RAM expansion fitted, but then removed by a previous owner without resetting the RAM expansion links on the main PCB (so ...

Re: Formatting SD/CF cards for use on RISC OS 3.1

Interesting. Try doing the same but add a new partition (option 1) before initialising. I've not used the ICS formatter for a long time, but some formatters create a default partition automatically and some don't. The warning about no partition in the table, suggests this formatter might not create ...

The reason is fraud. There is a scam. Pay by PayPal and collect. Then claim it never arrived. Buyer wins a refund no questions asked because they seller didn't post it to the paypal address. I've always asked buyers who pay with PayPal and then request to collect in person, to be prepared to log in...

I don't have it in front of me now but it definitely showed that it had found an SD card adapter of some description. !HDFormat also displayed the correct size for the entire SD card, which changed if I ran it with a different card. Has anyone else had this happen? - What could be the reason? - Does it suggest that the drive isn't formatted or initialised quite right? My A310 is currently packed away, so I can't compare directly, but the greyed out icon suggests the drive is either unformatted or not being detected correctly. ...

Interesting thread, it would be great to find a good simple solution to this. I got myself one of these some time ago, and I’ve used it successfully with my A3010 to get online and transfer files. Using one of these WiFi232 serial adapters instead of an ethernet podule frees up the A3010 mini-podule...
