Re: Formatting real harddiscs >512MB on RO3.1

On my A3000, which has a Castle IDE interface !HForm formatted the real hard disc with no problem. That's interesting... Searching previous posts on here and elsewhere suggests that it doesn't work with third party interfaces, but maybe some are more compatible than others. Castle IDE interface is ...

Re: Unreleased games

On the subject of "Unreleased games", were Stunt Racer 2000 Extra Tracks Series 3 or the Stunt Racer 2000 Track Designer ever released? I have both, which could probably be released if someone is prepared to test them to confirm they work. I don't know if the track designer was ever offic...

Re: Beebem save state and load state

So this would appear to be quite a significant bug in BeebEm then..? I definitely think there is some type of caching bug in the 8271 emulation. So it was nice to be able to confirm this. I had previously noticed that when changing between discs on BeebEm (using the menu entry to Load disc 0), the ...

Re: Beebem save state and load state

Just reading this with interest, as I've seen the same issue in BeebEm. And it just happens that I'm sat next to my BBC B with Acorn DFS 0.9 (8271) interface and a blank disc in the drive... So... You can see this if you start up BeebEm, insert a disc image (or create a blank one), make sure write-p...

Re: RISC-PC Not Working

I think I'm in a battery charging situation (although I don't really know why). I've got it to a state now where it will remember the time and date across any form of reset, as long as it's been switched on for a bit, and it will keep the clock updated accurately whilst switched off. But there come...

Re: Battery Issues

Many members mount them in a suitable location far from the PCB, then run wires to the PCB. You only need two wires. Write the date on the battery using a marker pen, and stick a label on the underside/back/side of the machine so you know when the battery was fitted. As they should be renewed every...

Hi I found !ChangeFSI on the 7000 in utilities and fired it up and then dragged the files over the icon and it converted them. It converted jpeg, bmp nad gif. I then saved to disk. The application wasn't on the 5000. The images though showed up on the 5000 albeit in a very limited palette. I dragge...

And extra art. https://bitshifters.github.io/posts/prods/bs-badapple.html Mindbogglingly great.   =D> =D> =D> Absolutely...

Re: Bad Apple - 25fps video on the Beeb

There is a program for the Acorn Atom to read and write cassettes at a speed of 3000 or 6000 baud without additional hardware. This was done by rewriting the cassette routines. I don't know if this is possible on the BBC? That sounds really interesting. Is there a description of how this works some...

Re: Bad Apple - 25fps video on the Beeb

It looks great and it is a lt easier to start than the beeb version, the Atom isn't so bad  ...because the Atom version isn't compressed, it is 10Mb of video and so needs 10Mb of SD card space to run. A beeb version like this would also look good and be easy to run. ;) Remember, the beeb v...

Re: Bad Apple - 25fps video on the Beeb

It'd actually be more interesting as a tape, I think — assuming you picked a data format that allowed a user to rewind and fast-forward the tape at will. Then you've invented a new format of video tape. A single 10-bit blob of high tone to mark frames should be enough? I generated a few different t...

Re: Bad Apple - 25fps video on the Beeb

For an extreme conversion, I wonder what it would be possible to do with sufficient compression and buffering, loading from tape on the beeb...? At 1200 baud / 150 bytes/sec, that'd be about 1 compressed 78x60 MODE7 frame per sec, using my compression above. But with a reduced frame size, some addit...

Does it support dual disc drives? v0.9 has the whole video now, but needs two drives... (at least until I work out whether I can squash it into fewer bytes :))

Re: Bad Apple - 25fps video on the Beeb

Data rate is about 4kb/s in my scheme (average 75 diffs per frame x 2-bytes per diff x 25 fps ~= 4kb/s.) Standard BBC floppy disk can achieve this easily enough. Oh, that is interesting - my compression works on individual frames (not diffs) and averages 126 bytes/frame, 3140 bytes/sec and 672kb fo...

Hi Kieran, Awesome work =D> and very uncanny how we've hit on the same idea and had very similar results too! :D My compression routine is really simplistic and not optimised much (more on that later), so far I've only squeezed the video data into 672kb, which is fine to fit on 1 x double sided Watf...

Re: !HForm errors - RISC OS 3.10, Castle IDE mini-podule on an A3010

Using the geometry I listed in this post might help... But as Daniel says, it is not easy to find CF cards which work on pre-RiscPC Acorns. One solution which has been seen to work on a Castle IDE interface is to soft-load the Wizzo IDEFS ROM, which supports a much wider range of CF cards. However o...
