A5000 IDE interface just died... what to try next?

Well there I was minding my own business playing a quick game of Arc Elite on my A5000, popped back to the desktop to save my position and was greeted by a "Broken directory" error, followed by "Disc not understood, has it been formatted?" when I clicked on the hard disc icon. :s...

Wow, great solution! I've not used my original A310 mouse in years because it was so bad... Never considered it might be suffering from a shrinking ball

Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

The DOS filesystem support in RISC OS 3 was only intended to handle floppies. It handles CD-ROMs and single hard disc partitions too. The big limit with DOSFS under RISCOS 3.1, is that it only supports single partitions and only up to FAT16 with no long filename support. (probably because FAT32 and...

Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

During experimenting with the different drivers tonight, I noticed an incredibly useful *command with the Argo Zip drivers which completely erases password-protected Zip discs: *IZipErase This is useful because you cannot reformat password protected Zip discs unless you know the password... Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

My guess: Windows by default treats a Zip drive as a hard drive and installs a partition table. Quite possibly that's why the discs don't work with the Iomega driver, although it's not because RISC OS was only "intended to handle floppies" (since RISC OS was intended to handle hard discs ...

Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

Fixed. If I format the disk with A3010, it works in Windows. Now, I can transfer files easy!!! thanks to all. Glad you sorted it. :) FYI I've just tried the zip drivers attached at the top of the thread and they are identical to the drivers I'm using, so everyone should be able to use them to read/...

Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

Hmmm.... If I format a 100mb ZIP-disk with my WIndows (FAT16) -Iomega ZIP100 USB-, RiscOS 3.10 in my Acorn A3010 dont recognize it. It says "unformatted" I dont understand nothing. how is possible? Maybe my Iomega drivers are different (they came with the drive, not from here)? Do you hav...

Thanks. The delete key is the one key I can't get working on my refurbished A3000 and I am trying to limit the number of times that I detach and re-attach the ribbon cables  I used the r key on my other roms just fine. Why would these roms shut the computer down so suddenly? Is it trying to p...

Or Is there any way to read FAT32 disks in RiscOS 3.10? thanks Did I miss something, surely this is what everyone does? Yes, those look like some I've seen in the past.

If they successfully boot to supervisor, then the roms have passed the checksum test, so they should be fine. Did you hold Delete when switching on, to reset CMOS RAM?

But be careful because some DOMs have the same issues as CF and SD, with compatibility problems on the RISC OS 3.1 Acorn and Castle IDE interface. Re: Some question about my A3010. Adelaide & IDEtoCF

Try the Wizzo IDEFS boot disc method, as I did for my A4000 here: http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=11247&hilit=Hform#p140562 This *might* well work with the Castle IDE interface on A3010 or A3000 (because of the similarities to the Acorn interface) and if so, it wound allow ...

Re: Some question about my A3010. Adelaide & IDEtoCF

Make sure it has a 44-pin connector. I use one of these in my A3010 (also Adelaide, but with a Watford Electronics IDE podule), one in my RISC PC (a 40-pin one) and another in an Amiga 1200 and they all work perfectly. But be careful because some DOMs have the same issues as CF and SD, with compati...

Re: Unpicking and re-creating Etherlan 550 ROM

Yes, will pop it up tomorrow, but each card will need to have a new one made based on the mfr files and MAC for that card (it's unclear to me how much is hardware and how much is software on these) Can you try swapping roms between two cards, if you have two available? Re: Unpicking and re-creating Etherlan 550 ROM

I suppose if you didn't care about RISC OS 2 compatibility at all then you could store the modules compressed in the ROM and have the loader run them through Squash_Decompress. It'd be a bit slow, but I think the OS only loads them once. A lot of ROMs for later podules include some form of decompre...

Re: Unpicking and re-creating Etherlan 550 ROM

That version of adfs filer makes sure you get the Share menu. Re: Unpicking and re-creating Etherlan 550 ROM

Looking at the Net module size, it's 29kb. I'm pretty sure the other modules came to just over 100kb when I counted them yesterday, so that won't fit...but try counting them on your hdd, to check.

Also, consider, do you really need ADFSFiler in there?

If you run the extractor and just hit return, rather than enter a second chunk directory address, it'll find and extract the loader in the first chunk.

Have a go at rebuilding. Just keep notes of everything you extract handy for when you rebuild and all should be well.

If not, post up the module you need and I can try again.

Re: A3000 restoration

It does sound like a dying chip, but as well as power, also check continuity from all other pins on the cmos RAM chip - the tracks for data c0 or c1 and the clock circuit often corrode before power tracks and lead to spurious errors (although usually accompanied by POST error of cmos RAM unreadable).
