Re: Viewdata Service
I think I would of been on it, mid 90s, I still have the letters somewhere. It had kind of been left alone even then. You wrote and got a demo time limited account, and were meant to pay a sub once it ran out, but the demo account just kept going.

Some years ago, I used a viewdata service called silicon village. I had email via my speccy, and would email my pc owning friends, much to their amusement.

I agree! I had an old ibook G4, that recently I dug out to remove the SSD IDE drive to use in something else, already the plastics had degraded, and were brittle/broken in places. They are rubbish inside, not to mention the use of glue arl ower.

A Pi 3B+ :D ... that doesn't seem work with the official PSU :( ... so investigating that. No amazing projects planned, just like seeing what the wee beasties can do. When I can get them to power up, of course! I read somewhere that the new one draws more power, and needs a beefier PSU :)

Re: No more leaded solder
Everyone should have paid attention to my Hakko url link, that explains lead pipes too! Hikaru What?! That is terribly dangerous, isn't it? Mr.Yokoo No, it is not always dangerous. When lead is combined with carbonic acid and oxygen dissolved in water, a film of lead compound (2PbCO3・Pb(OH)2) is dep...

Do you have all the cables? It should have an av connector between the two, then the final output.

It's one of those SCART RGB to HDMI black metal boxes from Amazon, connected to an Acorn Electron running on a 1080p HD TV. I think they are great boxes, I use all my old consoles on it. This was a snes on it:

Re: Maplin Electronics in administration
I guess the internets has done for a lot, but Maplin was a shadow of it's former self. I can remember in the mid 80s, we had an Amstrad TV, which was complete crap, and constantly breaking down. My Dad was constantly battling to keep it running. We used to get our parts from a large old skool electr...

Re: Which soldering iron?
I did a load of soldering last night with the Hakko, and it's a joy. It just stays hot but never burns, it's ideal for a newbie like myself. My wiring looks a bit rough and ready, just needs testing now  Also the Hakko is great because it has little cartoons on their website. http://www.hakko.c...
