Re: BBC B / Datacentre Fault

Mine does this if there are many files on the USB stick. The effect varies between sticks, ie some sticks are better than others.

Re: New Model B upgrades EEPROM, SRAM, adapters etc (BooBip)

I have the SWRAM and EEPROM boards in one of my Beebs along with a turbo-MMC system and they work great.

30+ years ago they would have made the Beeb simply awesome.

Two new Texas calculators for my collection. :D IMAG0977.jpg The SR-51A is a non-programmable scientific calculator that can do some quite sophisticated statistics. It is like new and fully working. I had to get this from a great vendor in Germany. The TI-85 was a UK acquisition from Amazon no less....

Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

Interesting that you have done that, Steve. My version of Windows 7 does not recognise any PC-Format zip discs on my USB 250 Mb zip drive. The drive is recognised but discs will not read/write. The drive is recognised on my Vista laptop and read/write work OK. WinXP works perfectly, of course. :D On...

Re: Archimedes Iomega ZIP drivers

Not that I have found. :( I transfer files betwixt PC and Archimedes using PC-format floppy discs. They are old school but the A3010 can read 1.44Mb formatted PC discs. I use a USB floppy drive and that is just fine. File types can be a problem if transferring applications. The problem is alleviated...

Re: BBC Model B takes up smoking

If you have someone who can fit them (it's not a difficult DIY), RS claims they deliver to Bulgaria. You'll need a 10nF (RS Stock No 311-1024) and a 100nF (RS Stock No 210-500). These have always worked well for me - it's amazing how many manufacturers used power supplies with these fitted, not jus...

Re: Using BBC BASIC to teach programming concepts in 2017

Pompous it may be but it is accurate pomposity! BBC BASIC is a fabulous language to learn programming and is far better than that over-hyped Python that has been inflicted upon schools. From years of experience I have found that students learn programming easier and quicker using BBC BASIC tha...

Re: Another A5000

One thing you may try as this happened to me with an old A5000. Power on for about half an hour. Don't worry if it does not boot. Then switch off and switch on holding the delete key down for about 10 seconds. With luck it will boot. It seems that when the battery is really discharged it needs a whi...

Re: I think I've just killed my AKF12 :(

The CRT will probably be OK. The high pitched whining is likely to be the EHT circuit oscillating at the wrong frequency. It is likely that somewhere in the horizontal oscillator circuit right up to the line output transistor there will be a fault meaning that the circuit oscillates at the wrong fre...

Re: Resurrecting A5000

A lot of those PCB connections look to be very corroded and these are in the power circuit to the CMOS chip. rtc.jpg You can use the CMOS/RTC diagram above to check connectivity and voltages. I had a similar problem with one of my A5000s and a couple of the links to the battery and +5v had corroded ...
