Re: BBC SD Card on Ebay

Apart from this item and whether or not this is somebody from Stardot ... what's the policy about selling hardware that has been developed here? Is it allowed to be sold by others? Personally I think it's not appropriate to sell other peoples intellectual properties without permission unless it is s...

Re: Acorn Disc Pack Utility Programs

Thanks Roland, I managed to create a 40T disc with the programs. I could not find load and execution addresses. I put them on &2900 (does that seem right?). On execution all programs terminate with "error 2". So clearly I am still missing something.. #-o It's not relevant anymore but ...

I don't have them but on the acornatom.nl software archive there are tools that help you create it. You can search for the tools and use fpu2 to create an image.

I use a micro 8 GB SDHC card in my Atom 2014 and I never noticed any problems with SDDOS. I don't use it often but I do remember that I mounted some CP/M and Flex images when playing with the matchbox copro.

Re: Daydreaming: a real VGA display card for the Atom

I have been writing some more code for both the Pi Zero and the Atom. The Pi Zero has now routines to draw an ellipse, circle, triangle, block, line and parallelogram. Both as outline or filled with the actual foreground colour. For the Atom I have written a few additional basic statements for easy ...

Re: Atom boots after 26 years!

I don't have such a set up but I expect it to work if you consider to replace the video memory by a 8kB static cmos ram ( http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=13531&start=60#p177979 ) which draws much less current than the 2114's and it also adds 2kB extra memory. However, I'd s...

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

The Atom video ram starts at #8000 and uses 512 bytes for text mode. So that ends at #81FF. The. Total video memory ends at #97FF (clear 4 graphics mode). However the complete memory from #8000 to #9FFF is decoded within the video memory area and might cause distortion of the video display when the ...

Re: My new Atom greets me with nothing but P's

This Atom has had a tough youth if I look at the area around the voltage regulators. But I think we can bring it back to life again. You already did a few basic steps: reseating the ic's and check the voltage. Some next steps are: Does the Atom beep if you press CTRL+G ? If so (but I don't think it ...

I have send several computers, mostly Atoms but also an Electron, BBC Master and some strange kind of beeb overseas and if they are boxed with lots of shock absorbing materials it goes quite well. I always send them with PostNL. I don't know about monitors but I think it's also doable if they are we...

Re: Is there still any interest for Atom2k15 boards

Thanks Kees, I didn't notice that this design was already on StarDot. If I have a look at the PCB it is quite large for a "plug-in" board, especially if I have to add a 6847, 6264, 74LS04 and some other stuff. Perhaps with 1/8 W resistors it is possible; I don't really like working with SM...

This colour circuit is worth giving a try. Maybe the 74LS123 is not needed. It will give colour output but still with noise.

Re: Is there still any interest for Atom2k15 boards

I would _love_ a reliable Atom as one of mine is unusable and the other works for the 1st 5 minutes... It's the godil which is a stopper for me. I don't want to pay £75 for a video chip. I don't want new features, just the old ones that work :D Bring the fpga goodness on=board however and I think i...

There is still much to learn (for example that C12 is not a resistor but a capacitor) but you've taken the first steps into the world of the Atom.

Begin with the basics and build up your knowledge. We're here to support you!

Your power supply is rated at 1.5A For a full expanded Atom this is often not enough. I used a 5V/2A power supply for my Atoms.

Yes, you're on a right track. Although many things will work you can get unexpected and unpredictable results when the IC's don't have the input voltage they need. What is the voltage of the power supply when the Atom is not connected? If that is about 5V or higher then your power supply might be t...
