What is a pretty "game" to watch while working

Postby pau1ie » Wed Mar 15, 2017 3:41 pm

I want something pretty to watch while working, which doesn't require (much) user interaction. I thought of the following which have zero player options where the computer AI plays itself, or maybe Conways game of life which we have in the archive. Any other ideas? I think there is a spirograph program somewhere on 8bs that loops through all the possible configuration options, but I can't seem to find it any more. I am after anything that gives you something pretty to look at occasionally is what I am after.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

Edit - fixed markup.

When I'm testing refurbished Electrons I load up Barron. It seems to go through several screens and has moving bits, so you always know it's working.

What I like to do is compile a bunch of MODE 1 colour photographs to audio CD and just lazily sit back as they dribble onto the screen.

It all looks richer on the CUB somehow.

How? What program are you using? On the PC and the BBC? Is there a thread I missed?

I use a copy of BBC MICRO IMAGE CONVERTER for the PC, before putting the pics to disk image. Then in the real Beeb, for taste, I transfer them to audio device with this handy tip I was given: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12053&p=152882#p152870 . Then when I sequence them on CD, I put first a program to load the pics in turn and adjust the VDU colour settings where needed.

I get 17 pics on a CD, with breaks to look at them. And I've included my disk images with stacks of photos, including good Beatle ones.

Screen mode 1 (or whatever we need), a check whether the next picture needs a VDU setting, loading the picture, pausing for ten seconds, loading the next one. Psychedelia at the end.

I've been through the motions and here we all are: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12190

The opening sequence of a game called Powerplay is quite nice, along with a nice tune that gets louder the longer it is on.

I think the tune is a well known classical tune - in the hall of the mountain king.

I should maybe try to record an AVI from BeebEm and put it on youtube. By the magic of modern computing, here it is: http://youtu.be/Zr59s2JE-Ak Scrub that, for some reason it doesn't display the video that was being shown on my screen.
I'm writing a game where you can change your character from a Wizard to a monkey to a cat.

Well, Imogen that!

Glad I could be of assistance.

I feel it's one of the lesser known games out there (it's a quiz game after all). The sound doesn't get too offensive either (and there's pretty flashing colours but they too are used sparingly and are not 'in your face'.
