mmbeeb file error with Qwak

Postby Heydave88 » Tue Jul 18, 2017 10:15 pm

Wasn't sure if this was the right place, but was wondering if anybody could help.

I've just installed an MMC SD card interface to my model B and so far it's working great (supplied by the great Tricky on this forum)! Only issue is that one game - Qwak! - gets an error and doesn't run.

I was using a pre-compiled library of Beeb games like the MMB file here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8176#p87705

But for whatever reason when running Qwak! I receive this error:

"BASIC

>PA.=&1900
>CH."QWAK!"

Bad command at line 20
>_"

I've had a look at the mmbeeb website (here: https://swhs.home.xs4all.nl/bbc/mmbeeb/ ) to see if I could somehow recompile the mmb file with a new copy of Qwak! but...well I got stuck pretty quickly after downloading the "games menu" utility. Do I need to have Microsoft access 2000 on my computer and download each of the .ssds separately? Alternatively, how could I upload the Qwak! .ssd image onto my SD card?

Thanks for any help with this!!

Might be helpful to know what (bad) command is being issued on line 20 :)

Any idea how I can find this out? I just launch the menu using shift + break, then select Qwak! and press return to launch it, when it shows the above message. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to get any more info out of it... Sorry I'm pretty useless, not sure what I'm doing #-o

I've tried downloading and launching the mmbimager.exe and dfsimager.exe found here: https://swhs.home.xs4all.nl/bbc/mmbeeb/windows.html but both of them fail to run on my windows 10 laptop or desktop...

Thanks for any help!!

it works on MMFS1.35 no problem & SuperMMC0.91

looking at line 20, it issues a *DISC

so, put 20REMdisc
RUN #-o

Thank you so so much!! Can't tell you how good it is to get Qwak! running on the machine after struggling with tapes for so long!!!

Might be a bit beyond my abilities, but is there any way to alter the .BBM file so it does these commands automatically?
Thanks again!

You should be able to do that on your BBC entering the following commands:

Code: Select all

*DIN 223
*DOP U
LOAD"QWAK!"
20
SAVE"QWAK!"
*DOP P

That should fix it permanently.

Some explanation:
*DIN 223 selects the virtual floppy containing QWAK!
*DOP U unprotects the currently selected virtual floppy so you can write to it
LOAD loads QWAK! without running it
20 Removes line 20, so the *DISC command won't get executed
SAVE saves QWAK! back to the virtual floppy
*DOP P puts the protection back to the virtual floppy so it is read-only again.

oke i know but is there the normal tape file from qwak! , because [-X

we have a basic program qwak! with *load lsqwak from &5800 to &7900 the screen , if not terrible enough
we load a machine code program qwak1 over the screen at &7000 holding a downloader for file DATA at &1400 with 4800 bytes

so &1400+&4800=&5C00 again over the screen

Qwak1 machine code program is to long at &7058 we have some downloader again ???
would it not be nice to have 1 file (maybe 2) to run QWAK  [-X #-o [-o< =P~

Thank you so much for this!!! For some reason the *DOP U and *DOP P commands to unprotect and reprotect the disc wouldn't work for me (returned Bad command) but I was able to get around this by inserting the SD card in my computer, unprotecting using mmbimager.exe, then editing in the BBC and re-protecting in the computer afterwards.

Runs fine every time now! Thank you again!!

because i could not leave it

almost perfect :) 1 file Qwak

it changes from mode7 to mode 5 without data lost

old data file Reconsidered , basicfiles in m-code

it is for beeb bbc. i don't think electron has the same mode codes switches

to run :

*run qwak (because it is all m-code now)
