Bringing World Cup Cricket (Test Match) up-to-date

Postby NYC2SN1 » Sat Dec 30, 2017 11:12 am

When this game came out, I was around 12/13, and was just getting interested in programming.

I remember taking this game, and was surprised that the source code was available to edit.

So, taking my new computer skills, I changed the code so that whenever a batsman got out for nothing, it showed an icon of a duck on the scorecard instead of a zero. I was pretty impressed, anyway!

Onto my question - is it possible to still get the source code for this game; edit it, and then make the edited version playable, I assume via an emulator?

It would be a bit of fun to bring this game up to date a little (e.g. have a T-20 option and edit the player names a little).

I'm sure this is pretty basic stuff (no pun intended) for those that know, but I really don't know where to start.

Thanks in advance.

First question: have you got a copy of the game?! Or can you link to one, please?

Is it one of these?:

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

This is the game...nope, I don't have a copy...I'm hoping someone out there has one :)

1. Download and install the BeebEm emulator: http://www.mkw.me.uk/beebem/

2. Download the game by clicking on the "Download" button on the page you linked to. You'll get a disc-image file with a .SSD file-extension.

3. Open the .SSD in BeebEm. Play the game.

4. Remember or re-learn (i) how to LOAD and LIST a BASIC program and (ii) exactly how you hacked the game when you were 12 or 13.

Great; thanks!

I’ll give that a go and try to re-live my youth!

Good point about re-learning BBC BASIC...I had completely forgotten about the CHAIN command!

Thanks again!
