+1 Dave H's project and a A3000 IDE interface :D

I have a A3000 with a Gotek w/HxC firmware fitted at the moment... would love a nice IDE->CF drive one day.

Happy to donate towards parts / time / beer...

(would have pm'ed but it's not enabled #-o )

It's getting nearer to a full time project . . . PCB to finish and, more importantly, PLDs to reverse engineer . . .

Ah! While you're here :D

I did a lot of work at the Leicester ABUG meeting, however, since then there's been way too many distractions :( Planning to to continue the work at January's ABUG, in Manchester, and hoping to complete the PLD reverse engineering ASAP.

Good luck! I see several other A3000 users on the thread who are also keen...

If it's not too late, is it worth swapping IC7 from a 74LS174 to a 74LS273, it's the page latch for the ROM, with a 174, it only latches 6 bits, which means there is a maximum rom size of 128K (6 bits, so 64 pages of 2K = 128K), with an 8 bit latch (74LS273), the max size goes up to 512K (8 bits, 256 pages of 2K = 512K). It would still be compatible with 29F010, but also compatible with 020 (256K) & 040 (512K) parts.

Not too late at all. I haven't touched the schematics for a while now. I need to ensure that I can replicate the PLDs before I do any more work on the design.

Is this a complete new ide interface for a3000? Very interesting.

No, I'm re-engineering the original one. I do have some details, from the time is was designed, however, not enough to completely rebuild it without some reverse engineering.

Be very interested in an IDE board for an A3010! Guess the mini-podule pin-out is different though?

I do plan the A3000 model replication, which will fit the A3010 - but it depends how patient you are :?

Dave, you are studying this project since more than two years... You don't need to ask for patience... :)
But why don't you share the documentation you got with the community, so the project can really and quickly grow up?

I can, and will, as soon as I get home and have my Windows machine back again. I use Altium as a design base so the only thing you'll see, at the moment, is the schematics and the partial board layout.

I'm still waiting to get back to reverse engineering the 2 x 16V8 PLDs. If you're not aware (?) I've written a BASIC program to 'scan' the inputs of the PLDs (via the User Ports on my AP5) and look for changes in the outputs (they're 'locked'!). This, hopefully, will allow the recreation of the files to program production units.

this sounds like an awesome project, I'm really interested in this, my ide is limited to small disks.

Dave: Are the PLDs registered? If not, I can extract them from my interface and have a go at reading the outputs as if the devices were EPROMs.

I can also have a go at recreating the JEDEC files as I've got espresso and jedutil on my laptop.

Rob . . .

PLD datasheet here. I'm 'fairly' sure that there's no 'clock' used but it was one thing I was going to check for. This is the latest schematic I have.

I could send you the PLDs next week for you to have a gander. It will certainly help, thanks. Note: They're the only ones I have!

Thanks for the info Dave. I have a BE IDE interface so no need to send as I should be able to use the PLDs from mine...

Yes - board says "ARCIN v6c".

Just need to check that it still works and then remove the PLDs...

Good news is that my board works but if you want to send me yours Dave then that would save me some hassle!

Alternatively, if you want to cut out the middle man, this is the adapter I built:
http://www.techno-junk.org/

I've only used it once (and it would need to be modded for PLCC) but it worked well and the software was very easy to use.

I'll work on that 'long-term' - way too many projects already!
