Which BBC model is this, A or B?

Postby WorcesteRob » Sun Apr 22, 2018 12:42 pm

I have had a BBC sitting at the back of a cupboard for a few years and not sure which model it is.

Please can someone help to identify if it's a model A or model B

When switching on it just shows (no mention of 16K or 32K):

BBC Computer
Basic

Hi
I don’t know about anyone else but all I see is a load of messages about upgrading a photobucket account?

Looks like a model B to me...

When it's on press CTRL+BREAK to get the full header. If it's not doing that on power on, then there's something a bit wrong with it.

EDIT: Specifically it's Model B iss.3 motherboard with the earlier "rough" case and "BBC Microcomputer" function strip which was altered to avoid trademark issues in the US with another company with the BBC name that wasn't anything to do with Auntie Beeb!

Thanks Paul - I'll go and take a look now.

EDIT - Just checked and 32K there now  A model B it is then.

The curse of photoplop :( it is a bit annoying especially when you find an old topic and the images are awol. Internet Archive sometimes can help with elderly topics I guess though.

Can I ask a quick but relevant question to save starting a new topic ? :)

Did the Model A *ever* come from the factory with 32K as standard ? As in not a dealer added upgrade, just 32K (instead of 16K) but obviously everything else (usual model B ports etc) awol.
