Superior Software -Games On Disc

Postby CMcDougall » Wed Mar 19, 2014 10:56 pm

Just been playing Frogger for the 'High score challenge - S2 round 6 - Frogger' thread, and thought I would play my own disc from BITD \:D/

Now, I did not make this, just copied it from a copy, but was it a official release :?: :-k
Looks rather well made, the menu and progs :

This looks familiar! It was not officially released for sale but may have been an official Superior disc for use in stores, shows, etc.

^cheers for the info Pernod, thought it was not just a run of the mill 'do it yourself' disc. 8) So someone must of copied it from a John Menzies or WHSmith store.

plus, they also spell the word disc properly! =D>

I know, very tempting, but I only did that to my cheat/infinite lives copies. Anyway, I found about 10 references to you which I've reverted back to original author and hi score tables, will post when back home.
One thing that I noticed though was, I think centipede, only asked press space, whereas my copy was press space or fire. Maybe a different version.

Could be the demo before a full run was done of the single games, so that might give a better idea of the date of My Disc :^o

Back in the early 90s I acquired several disc boxes containing numerous 'copy discs' from different sources, and encountered several variants of this disc (which I believe were all labelled "Demonstration Disc" - as opposed to Games on Disc).

IIRC there were at least three main variants, each of which had a different selection of games - with the odd duplicate. All of the games featured were 'early' releases e.g. pre-Overdrive/Smash & Grab.

As I'd picked up these discs from multiple sources, I'm pretty much convinced they must have originated from Superior; as Pernod suggests, they were likely mastered for use at shows, within shops etc.

Sadly all of my copies are long-gone! :(

Found this amongst some disc images... imaged 1998, so the original/copy might be somewhere around. Don't think it's been tampered with, and must be a later version because it also contains Q*BERT & COLDITZ.

There's another version of this floating around that doesn't include Magic Mushrooms, and also doesn't include the option to (R)un program.

That would be this one!
It's just been de-fsd'd it, so there are still control codes to prevent *INFO and *CAT :)
Searched the forum, but couldn't see it anywhere

I remember it being copy protected, think this one I removed the copy protection and added the games to the disk on side 2.
And have a feeling... but it was so long ago.... that I added Magic mushrooms from here

Revs Demo

Postby billcarr2005 » Sat Oct 28, 2017 10:41 pm

Had a quick go...
The track IDs are "reversed" in that track 1 has ID 26 and track 27 has ID 1
On the protected disk, revs1 decrypts itself then loads some data which includes the MODE7 screen as well as the code that creates the new catalogue and loads the new files (revs1, silver and revs2)

Thanks for these, and the Magic Mushrooms demo that I was previously unaware of. Anyone know of any others out there?
