New MakeUEF manual

Postby Fraser » Sun Jul 18, 2004 11:03 am

My manual for the new MakeUEF is available at the Electrem site. I will release the program at the same time as www.acornpreservation.org is launched. There is a professional tape version and an amateur tape version of the program.

What's the difference between the "amateur" and "professional" versions of the MakeUEF tool?

MakeUEF

Postby Fraser » Mon Jul 19, 2004 9:10 am

The amateur version does only rom saved files. Only a default gap, pilot, polarity and baud rate is used. Extra stop bits with Electron files are removed. There is greater toleration of wave sizes to allow easier reading. The polarity is discarded so it doesn't matter if the wrong polarity is used.

Its actually the same program compiled with a preprocessor macro to switch code in or out.

New MakeUEF exes

Postby Fraser » Wed Jul 21, 2004 11:06 am

The exes of the new MakeUEF are now available at the aforementioned preservation site.

If you want to make any csw and uef files for submission you would be advised to ask me if they have already been done.

Don't forget to set your signature with the -g switch with your name and cassette player model.

It would be best to include scans of your cassettes to ensure that the files are matched to the cassettes they came from. Small files will do.

The file naming conventions are unfortunately not up yet.

MakeUEF V1.2

Postby Fraser » Mon Nov 08, 2004 4:19 pm

MakeUEF V1.2 is now completed and will be available when Dave makes it available.

The main difference is that I now know what is happening with digital amplifiers. I have taken the CSW file creation phase out of the MakeUEF manual and added a new document to CSW Viewer. I now record the leading and trailing gaps on tapes to be more exact and feel more real.

The tapes done that will be available at acornpreservation.org are:
10 Computer Hits (Beau-Jolly) (E)
737 Flight Simulator (Salamander) (E)
Adventure (Micro Power) (E)
Battlezone 2000 (Lothlorien) (BE)
BBC Mastermind Quizmaster (Mirrorsoft-Ivan Berg) (BE)
Birds Of Prey (Romik) (E)
BlitzKrieg (Software Invasion) (B)
Bonecruncher (Superior) (B)
Bonecruncher (Superior) (E)
Bud Joystick Utilities (CCS Package) (E)
Castle Quest (Micro Power) (B)
Chess (Micro Power) (B)
Chess (Micro Power) (E)
Dare Devil Dennis (Visions) (E)
Football Manager (Addictive) (E)
Gold Digger (Firebird) (B)
Hacker, The (Firebird) (E)
Mineshaft (Alternative) (B+E)
Psycastria (Audiogenic) (B+E)
Sphere of Destiny (Audiogenic) (B+E)
Spy Vs. Spy (Tynesoft) (B+E)
Stairway to Hell (Software Invasion) (B+E)
Thunderstruck 2 (Audiogenic) (B+E)

There is some non-standard cassettes there that could not be available presently. Some of them will load into BeebEm and Electrem Future. CSW file support is only present in Electrem Future but it needs updating for these files.
New UEF/CSW files

Postby Fraser » Tue Nov 16, 2004 7:15 pm

For the next batch I have done all the Ultimate tapes except Lunar Jetman but its on the Cosmic Battlezones compilation which I've also done. There is a few other non-standard tapes.

BeebEm needs some work on supporting the Ultimate and Firebird tapes. Castle Quest loads but sometimes has to be rewound a bit when BeebEm misses a block. BeebEm can only rewind to the start. Also theres some odd flashing white lines on the screen sometimes with CQ. Super Pool appears to have a keyboard problem with BeebEm. Changing the tape speed only works after loading a new tape.

Electrem Future has better tape support but a limited GUI.

I won't be making an updated MakeUEF for a while but there will be a new CSW Viewer which has instructions improved a bit.
