which must be worth investigation. And some more at

There is a forum somewhere nearby for people developing homebrew Acorn games but I can never find it. For some reason, although it is sometimes mentioned, it is not prominently linked. Edit: found it here

Retro Software, the Homebrew Development Hub
Edit edit: see below, this site is now deprecated.

There's mine...although not exactly completely aimed at the Acorn/BBC, but Repton did spawn from them, so I guess it falls into that category:

Site: Repton Resource Page http://www.reptonresourcepage.co.uk
Owner: Gerald Holdsworth (geraldholdsworth)
Description: Help and resources for Superior Interactive/Superior Software's Repton series of games, on all known platforms.

(could probably come up with a better description, but for now that'll do)

Cheers,

Gerald.

This was a sister site to stardot and is in the process of being shutdown and moved over to stardot. The plan at present is to keep the wiki for now but move it if possible and to 'freeze' the forums in their current state. The new forums are here at stardot.

It became very quiet on the forums with maybe only a handful of posts and posters a month, at least here on stardot those posts will be read by more people and will hopefully increase the interest in writing games and programming in general.

Yes, consolidation seems like a good idea in this case.

Thanks for the entries. I've added them to the top post.

I've also taken the various pages of links and will trawl those later.

Some more links, and content, here:

(See under "The Community")

A separate link to BeebWiki would be good - now found under mdfs:

JGH is the owner and main contributor but like any wiki it has many contributors.

My site was mentioned in the sense that it's got a list of other related site links on it but an official listing would be...

Retro-Kit http://www.retro-kit.co.uk
Paul Vernon - paulv
A small collection of Acorn computers from the 80's and 90's detailing many of their peripherals and contemporary upgrades too.

The owner is almost certainly Dave Moore (Arcadian), but the work done to create it is by many people on stardot:

http://www.bbcmicro.co.uk/about.php
bbcmicro.co.uk wrote:Who we are

Mick Brown, Paul Houghton, Gary Forest, Lee "Eagle Eyes" Newsome, Dave Moore.
We're grateful to the incredibly knowledgeable members of the Stardot forum for their generous help and support.

I'm sure there more names to add to this list.
Site: Stairway to Hell
Owner: ???
Description: BBC Micro Software Archive. A large collection of disk and tape images, ROMs, articles and scans.

Definitely Dave Moore - Arcadian

Just wondering if 'Creator(s)' is possibly a better term to use than 'Owner' ?

Ah, just seen noticed the updated entry for BBCMicro.co.uk above. I'd certainly be uncomfortable taking sole 'credit' for this site bearing in mind how much work others have put in compared to me!! Maybe attribute me as a 'contributor' ??? e.g.

Creators: Paul Houghton, Mick Brown, Lee Newsome.
Lead contributors: Richard Toohey, Simon Hooper, Chetan Desai, Dave Moore & Team.

(Apols if I've missed anybody else who's dedicated a lot of time to the site!!)

I've changed it from Owner to Contact as this hopefully doesn't imply too much in terms of content creation/ownership.

Actually, the 2nd. The first was my site, at
http://homepage.cistron.nl/~wouters/bbc/bbc-etc.html

(see also the start of the following page on my current site, for more information and a partial backup of my pages from Aug. 1996: http://wouter.bbcmicro.net/bbc/index.html)

I made my site ca. mid (or perhaps late) 1995 and I put disk images of games and other software, information on how to create diskimages on a PC using anadisk etc. It was aimed towards distributing software, creating diskimages and just anything else about the BBC micro that interested me. Since Robert took care of software distribution and had far more space on his university server, I then went into another direction. I looked in my email archive and in Jan. 1996 he first emailed me, and the following excerpt is telling for the situation then:

I was quite pleased to see that you had made Elite available as a disk
image on your page, as I have not yet been able to find any programs to
run on BeebEm.

Yes, there was some information on the BBC micro out there, emulator makers had brief pages but those were not BBC micro sites. There was nothing like a general site as I started then, and which 'The bbc lives' continued: no BBC micro ROMs (emulators came with instructions on dumping your OS and Basic roms etc. though emailing some people with a plea for the ROMs could work at that time :)) and no commercial software. To further give an idea of the situation then: Some time in 1996 I got an email from a lawyer saying I should stop distributing the Acorn OS/Basic ROMs... At that point I thought of a workaround using the freely available 65Host which Darren Salt then programmed after my suggestion. Interesting times :)
