Spotted it this morning thanks (the problem is with the .com not the .co.uk btw).

The registrar has screwed up the DNS and their control panel is currently down too so I can't correct the DNS.

Have already emailed support (and tweeted their CEO too!).

The site/files are safe - the .com is good till 2016 (and will be renewed) and the .co.uk redirect (which expires in a few days) will also be renewed. It's my intention to keep STH permanently online, and the file archives will be integrated onto the StarDot webserver and reopened this year.

They've replied and said the DNS has now been corrected - no sign of any changes yet, but it can usually take a number of hours for DNS updates to kick in.

For the last few days I haven't been able to get to the lists of links to downloadable disc images and tape images on StairwayToHell.com.

For example, the following URL doesn't load for me:

http://www.stairwaytohell.com/bbc/archi ... ilter=.zip

I can follow the link-trail only up to this point: SOFTWARE -> BBC MICRO -> disk images

If I then try to click on "index by filename", there's a long delay and then just a blank page.

Is it just me?

Currently looking into it ... it appears to be related to a hacking attempt on the site ... :(

Ugh. :(

Wish they would go and find better things to do. (Very mild version of what I wanted to say.)

And one of the last things you need when you are time-poor.

Good luck.

Ok, Stairwaytohell.com was indeed hacked and some malicious/phishing scripts were uploaded. The site's been temporarily disabled and will reappear once it's been relocated to a new server. Watch this space ...

The STH site is now back online, though all php files have been removed for now.

In the mean time, you can still browse the main archives using the following links:

A little background on the recent STH ' hack '

Happened, 22/Mar/2015:16:25:35 UK time
( from IP 41.203.69.1 - Bulgarian IP )

Referer reference was

GET /bbc/archive/diskimages/js/asap.php?x=chmod
( rest of referrer removed )

More information on asap.php at
http://www.hotscripts.com/listing/asap-php-72730/

asap.php ( and other .php scripts ) was used to provide a web based view of the software archive(s) by displaying the directory contents in a tabular list within the webpage.

The hacker used the script to upload a spam email system and started sending out junk, Netcraft brought this to our intention when the spam campaign started on the evening of the 25th March.

We removed asap.php and its associated scripts, unfortunately this removes the ability to browse the software archive(s). The STH site and its contents are otherwise intact.

www.stardot.org.uk was not effected, as this runs on its own Linux VM, seperate DC.

As indicated, there is the intention to rebuild the archive and merge this with stardot.org.uk, though this is a job for someone else ;)

Gary

Happy to help here as this breaks jsbeeb's ability to load up the games index (boo!). Please let me know if I can help in any way! (Is there a way to get a list of all the file details? At the moment I parse the HTML from the reclist.php which seems a little...fragile!)

Cheers!

Since I doubt the list of games is likely to change, why not maintain your own index? Then you can store it in whatever format works best for jsbeeb. :)

That's a fair point: at the time I wondered if new discs were still being added, but probably not :)

Gary, thanks for the write-up.

Usually there's no information after a break-in so I appreciate the information. :D =D>

Better check that I've got nothing hosting asap.php (don't think likely after reading that link.)

I can also help with the restoration / archive improvements, but there's another thread about that: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9140

Stairwaytohell.com is now on a new/secure server and the indexing scripts have now been fixed, all thanks to Gary & Netnorth! :)
