Those missing bits are probably the 256 bytes the loader grabs directly from the tape and writes to E00

Indeed they are! Couldn't get them with MAKEEUF or bbctapedisc, but Jimmy's B-Em22alpha was able to load the WAV. :)

Mine did too, so i cut the 256 byte section out, and switched tapes after the first file had loaded. 8)

This morning, before work, I decided to make the loader work for me...

This interrupt forces the "RUN" to be replaced with "STOP" in the page &D loader area, so everything loads and runs as normal but then the program bombs out with Bad program.

At this point I can go into EXMON, move memory 0E00-2E00 up to 4000 then *CARD and *SAVE ORBIT2 4000+1E00 E00 E00

Again the resulting program has "Bad program" errors but this is because of the original "copy protection". It looks good. So this evening I'll take a look to see if we just need 0D FF at the end, or if I need to be clever with the loader. But I should have a working SSD (if no one else has done it before hand).

OK, even though it may not be necessary...

The last bytes of the code are 0D 7F, rather than 0D FF to indicate end of program. Binary edit fixed that. Now the code needs too much memory to run at &1100 so needs to be at &E00, so I added a simple basic "*LOAD" "FOR loop relocator" "PAGE/OLD/RUN" routine, and then modified the existing loader to set page and chain that.

I kept the original 7 second delay on the load screen just 'cos (see line 615). In a brief test CHAIN "ORBIT" works on BeebEm and looks to behave the same as the original tape did on my real Beeb.

I've gotta say; I think this thread is an exemplar for what this forum is about; we get the raw wav, break the protection, come up with alternative solutions and also get a scan the insert.

I think this is good work by everyone, and all involved should be proud of their co-operation.

Two copies of each respective game were recorded on the first side of the cassette (each reverse side was blank).

Aww the waves for Orbit Zero are gone, anyone have a tape image (uef or wav) of this game wanted to look at the copy protection :wink:

I've just checked the server, the files are still there - part of the path is /wav/bbc/ not /wavs/bbc/ - I'm not sure how that got changed but I've fixed the links below so you should be good to grab them now ...

^If you read, the UEF was not possible as the protection was a swap from 1200 to 300baud to load first block of main part to &E00
The .WAVs *might* be on my desktop PC, but not got it on regularly as never have time :(

Yes got all that from the posts, which is why I though it would be interesting to look at it and see if it can be copied/reproduced in another way than makeUEF :wink:

I never came across any 300 baud blocks so not sure where that story comes from The loading is a bit odd, as the 1st program turns the tape motor back on and loads a one block basic program which then loads the 3rd basic program in at &E00.
It loads on BeebEm (Need to remember to set page to &E00 before you load the 1st program or it will come up with bad program as it can't find the M/C at the correct address.) but then comes up with Bad program at the end.
On B-em it does load, after a fashion as it has a hangup finding the 3rd part if you rewind and let it search a 2nd time it then finds it, but 1st time around it does not find block 0.
